General Fiero Discussion / Re: Rescue fiero #2!
« on: August 26, 2019, 03:12:22 am »
Update:
Consider this one a successful rehabilitation. It was given to my brother, a gm mechanic, to be completed. He's replaced all the issues that kept it from being daily driver capable and I think its last need is painting. He drives it occasionally and has fun with it. It’s in good hands.

I’m sorry this happened to you, but it’s so unbelievable, it’s funny. I can only imagine that they’ll definitely find something to justify their actions, once the embarrassment wears off inside the dept. time to call the local “news on your side” and see if they’ll pick it up. The story shout fit nicely into the “WTF?!” column. I’m sure they’ve got a bloodhound there that enjoys chasing Barney Fife stories.
Please keep us posted!!!

Injectors severely clogged. All needed cleaned. One or two needed replaced. Man, that gold gt was cherry though. Real nice car. Untouched and factory all the way.

Like Raydar said, the cam sensor is used for SFI. If using the 7730, or Fiero ecm, they don’t have the capability to fire injectors sequentially, only in batch, so the cam sensor is useless in our application, except for in function to plug a hole in the block.

No. Still blocked off. I never purchased an egr. I suppose I should do that.

You guys are on the right track...
On the standard intake for the v6, the canister is activated via ported vac.  The purge is dumped into the intake vac line.  Its all vacuum actuated.
Yes, 7730 provides the option of using a solenoid switch to replace the action of the ported vac connection, but is totally unnecessary unless the intake is changed.
The 88 Duke may have the solenoid because it shares a lot with the 7730 platform.  Idk.

The gearing is almost perfect, compared to the Muncie 4 it replaced.  With 14" rims, I kept smoking 1, 2, 3, and my speedo was off.  Installed 17" wheels, and speedo is dead-on and no more unintended burnouts.  The 3rd gear breaking loose was unnerving.  I swapped ends a couple times.  Of course, that was with my 3.4+ bored, valved, opened up and tuned.  I can't remember my hwy rpm.  I want to say 1700 @ 70?  Ill get it out this weekend and reply with the speeds.

Howdy!
I have the 60* bellhousing f23 from the cavalier. The cobalt one has the ecotech housing, so I lucked out and didn’t have to change anything other than the shifting rod clocking, which isn’t necessary anymore because there’s way better kits out than when I did it.

Yes. That was my last one. Something is a little “off”. Don’t know what it is, but I’m not going to be a part of it. Thanks ga club for setting my expectations too high!  I’ll never find another club :(

It’s wormed into a welded body strut and jenga’d Through to where it popps out at the tank. You can get it without removing the rear clip. It just might take some thought and ingenuity.  I did mine with the clip on. I can’t remember if it came out the wheel well or the bottom, though.

1” is usually all ice or lethal combo. I’d rather drive in 1” snow than 1” ice any day!
We’re located just north enough to get cold air, but just south enough for humidity, so we get ice instead of nice fluffy snow.

I think they where painted black already at some factory before being shipped to, then assembled onto your car.  Go ahead, paint it! I want to see the cuss words you invent to remove and replace it. Ralphie’s dad in “A Christmas Story” comes to mind. Been there, done that.

The last (first) meeting I had attended had 9, including myself. There where 3 other balding, middle-aged nutters, such as myself, and the rest had already completed the transition into a more “experienced” stage of life. Does that help paint a clearer picture of the demographics of their club?  I’d say it’s about like ours. They discussed the need to attract a younger audience and where concerned about the growing age of the majority of members. It’s about an hour for me from work, 30mins from home to attend. I’m planning to attend this Thursday, if the warden grants me time served.

Fierofool,
I’ve been absent from everything everywhere for a while!  I’m just starting to be able to tread water again!  This has been the most difficult move I’ve made. NOTHING has been easy.
Gtrs Fiero,
Excellent point. Maybe I’m looking at it wrongly.
Thanks for the pep-talk!

Have you ever realized, a little too late, that you had a good thing going after you’ve already gone?  Well, I’m comparing oranges to peaches and I miss the club like crazy. The club here just isn’t the same and probably won’t ever be. I don’t want to discount the efforts and legitimacy of the club here, but they just don’t have the same vibe as GFC. To be fare, I’ve only attended one meeting, but I’m debating on whether I’ll attend another. It just wasn’t the same. They have zero online presence.
