rear strut nut size?
« on: March 15, 2014, 09:54:29 pm »
hey all,
I'm half way through changing out my rear struts and had to cut off the top strut rod nut.  problem is, i can't find a replacement anywhere.  the struts came with new ones, but they where the wrong size.  i guess i could go to the dealer.  anybody had experience with this?  best i can tell, it's close to 3/4 in 13 threads....but i think it's metric.

I believe what you are asking about would be item #4 in the diagram.

http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/128257.html (good article)

14013439 (old GM part number)

11516382 (new GM part number)

M14 x 2 x 15 (size)

~$4.00

Always torque to proper spec and use Lock-Tite!

You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

Update:  I could not find the bolt (m14x2) at home depot or lowes, but. I found it at pep boys.  Fyi.

I had problems finding end link bolts for my 86.  Nothing automotive grade at Home Depot or Lowes and I couldn't find them at any of the automotive parts stores except to buy a new end link kit.  Found the exact bolts I needed at Tractor Supply, and they were (IIRC) about 1/3 the price of a similar bolt at the Depot or Lowes.
