What is your Dream Fiero?
« on: November 07, 2016, 01:16:36 pm »

The title says it all:  If money was no object, what would be your dream Fiero?

An '88 with a V8?
A convertible?
The one sitting in your garage?

Feel free to get carried away...
Red '88 GT 5-Speed, 7730ECM, 1.6 Rockers, and KEYLESS Entry!

I'll start this off:

An '88 GT with T-tops and upgraded A/C
A high output 4 banger in the 200+ HP range that gets over 300 miles/tank.
Smooth 6-speed manual.
Upgraded interior.  Not entirely sure what 'upgraded interior' means yet, since I'd like a flowing interior
but don't want to give up my GT instrument cluster cup holders.  Maybe a digital dash.  Not grey.
Auto up/down windows.

5-spoke rims with run flats so I can ditch the spare and turn the area under the hood into storage.
Also want the tires to fill the gap around the body a bit better and provide that Fiero crouch with the
slightly higher rear end.

The notchie nose.

Great paint job.

Oh, and ABS.

Edits to come as I think about this.

A new paint job on all 3, a built 3800 NA crate motor and brake upgrade in each and the handling problem in the 86SE resolved.  Keeping them as close to stock as possible with a slightly modern upgrade.  Oh yeah, and a working factory AC upgrade in the Lil Duke Coupe.

A stock perfect '88 Mera with no phony Ferrari add-ons, 5-speed with t-tops.
A Kansas Racing Products block for my 88 coupe, and a decent 5-speed transmission to handle it.

An 88. Probably with an aero-notchie body (like the 85 GT or 86-87 SE) - white in color, like my first 85 GT. IRM wraparound whale tail. Or maybe the Fastback Formula that I have now.
LS engine (or LFX 3.6 V6) with an F40 6 speed. Power steering. Full BCM with all the creature comforts that my G6 has, including trip computer, TPMS, heated perforated leather seats, etc. ABS.
A/C, of course. Upgraded interior. Kind of like Rob Amida's interior, but with non-Fiero instrumentation. Upgraded sound system with lots of "stealth" speakers and USB/bluetooth.

Edit - And a targa roof. One that doesn't leak.

No. I don't want much. :D

A Metallic Red Corvette Convertible

Circa 1984-1988?

I was wondering how many folks would create a Corvette with their dream list.
But wasn't expecting anyone to be quite so blatant!  ;D

Me, I drive a Fiero because I like them.  I don't want to deviate greatly from what the car could have become.  I don't think it would have ever transformed into anything like the Corvette, design-wise, or front engine-wise.  Certainly it would have gotten a stronger powerplant like a V8 or an 18 or 24 valve V6 engine and other modern upgrades, but probably would have continued to look something like it's cousin the Camaro, and the recently deceased Firebird.  Just staying as a 2-seater with mid engine.

Kit car rebodies are very unique.  I used to build them, but the manufacturer is usually out of business within a few years, just when you need tech support or specialty parts for repairs.  Anyone going with a rebody in my opinion, should select one from a company with a long track history and the car shouldn't be a daily driver.

Interesting that the next generation of Corvette is supposed to be mid-engine.  Only took Chevy 30 years to catch up.

I too drive a Fiero because I like it. It's fun, nimble, and looks great.  But I'd like it even more with a few mods.  In many ways our little Pontiacs are the perfect kit car.  Don't like something?  Swap it out.

IMHO the Fiero was doomed to remain an I4 or V6 with the usual more powerful upgrades.  But it wouldn't have challenged 'vettes at GM until some V8 Archie guy made a competitor.  Even then GM wouldn't have put in a V8.  They would have made the Corvette mid-engined.

The Fiero should have been marketed to graduates, with V6 & V8 Cameros positioned as a family sports car, and the Corvette for empty nesters.

Would a convertible have appeared?  Probably.
A four seater? Hope not!
Better interior?  Oh Yes!

I'd seen pictures of the four seater on Pennock's.  Didn't do the car justice.  Looks good.

But I still don't think GM would have put it in production if the Fiero lived.

It's a 4-seater but still a 2-passenger car.  I saw a picture of Jenn and another lady in the back seats.  The fronts were pushed all the way forward and the seatbacks tipped fully forward.  Still had no footroom.

You can get an idea from the pictures in Eric's website.  The coupe prototype is also shown as a 4-seater.

I think this is Jenn in the first picture.  Warning!!!This link isn't safe for work.  Not safe when the wife is present, either.
