Run Flat Tires
« on: February 04, 2017, 07:59:54 am »

Anyone have run flats on their Fiero?

Do you like them?

Would you get them again?

Any other comments?

I'll take that as a no.

My brother had them for a while. He said they rode like solid rubber tires.

The Toyos that I had on my G6 felt like solid rubber tires too, and they weren't even run-flats. Were so noisy, and so slippery, that I removed them with over half the tread still remaining, and put them in my storage locker. (Anyone need some 245/45 -18s?)

But yeah... All kidding aside, I've heard that run-flats were very stiff. Necessarily so, in order to support the car without air.

Toyos have hard rubber to increase tire life.

Yeah. I kind of figured that out. I try to buy tires with a lower treadwear rating (under about 260 - 280) for performance. The trade off is, of course, treadwear.
The Toyos are 360, so that would tend to bear that out. But then again, I see treadwear numbers of 500 or so on some tires. They can't be THAT hard.

I've read several reviews of these tires. Most people say they're rock hard, as I found mine to be.
I really thought they were dangerous. My commuter is a G6 with a 3.5. I could spin the tires easily, on dry pavement, even with traction control turned on. (245/45-18s)
They were downright scary on wet pavement.

I found the Toyos to be odd on bumps in the road.  I didn't have a problem, otherwise.
