Crash test video
« on: February 08, 2014, 04:53:11 pm »

I just wanted to share what I found when looking at videos of removing the Fuel tanks.

Sad to see it crushed, but cool to see its survivability.

Couldn't get the link to open.  Had to remove the chevrons from either end.

There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

I fixed it so you don't need a link.

Interesting that the rear wheels appeared to stay straight until after that had rotated a bit.  It didn't seem that the initial impact caused the toe out.

Even so, the impact really didn't get into the wheels enough that it wouldn't have been steerable until stopping.  Likely they had the car in gear or Park and engine off.  I noted that the rear wheels didn't seem to roll.  Results might have been different had a vehicle struck it, having the point of impact more concentrated rather than spread out over the entire rear surface as with that big flat impact sled surface.  Even so, it's not likely that it would have affected the fuel tank.

I've seen a couple of crash test videos of the Fiero but never saw that one.  Thanks.

The rear wheels do seem to roll.

I didn't start this topic.  It was one I came across.

Former member Randy posted the original.  Until he posted, I'd never seen the video.  In the slo-mo, I could see the left wheel roll.  Looked like a skid mark behind the right wheel.  I noticed on the slo-mo underbelly shots that the front cradle attachment points buckled upward, absorbing some of the impact and that the centerline of the cradle moved over toward the right.  Could have been part of what changed the toe.  I didn't see any deflection of the cradle assembly, at all.

There's no sound, so I don't know what their narrative was.
