Concerning the Tucker automobile: I'm pretty sure it had a flat (boxer) 6, not a V6 engine.

Oops.  Reread the article's first sentence.

Tucker's were mixed and matched.  No two were identical.  But yeah, that's a pretty big error.

BTW, THANK YOU FOR READING!

No, boxer, like a Subaru. Horizontally opposed cylinders.

Thank her for her article.  I think there are lots of people in the Fiero and car world in general that don't really have the spousal support.

Google minutes?  Interesting wording.  I am not sure of Google's unit of measure.  If Google shows, for example, 4 hours, I can follow Google's directions, drive for an hour at the speed limit, and still be more than 4 hours away.

Google does not account for bathroom & gas breaks, parking time, nor does it include traffic jams or red lights.  They seem to use perfect world minutes with instantaneous acceleration and stops. Hence, "google minutes".

It seems worse than that.  If I take the miles for the trip as reported by Google, and divide by the speed limit, I get a much more reliable figure.

I looked up a trip that Google says is 782 miles, and 8 hours, 52 minutes away.  Highly unlikely.  If I check to another place that is near that, it shows 14 hours.  It almost seems that there are certain places that Google wants to seem closer or further.

Google Maps Online seems to adjust timing for traffic.  Whenever I plan to go anywhere distant, I often check Google Maps in advance so I know what time to leave and get there at the appointed time.  There is generally a footnote that says it's with current traffic conditions.  I'm sure, though as Paul stated, that it doesn't take into account stop signs and lights.

I always look at my GPS when I get to my destination and it's the exact time that I arrive  ;).  Never been able to get there before the GPS ETA.  As Tim Shannon says, "When my GPS says my Arrival Time Is xxx, my mind says That's The Time To Beat".

Actually, Google bases at least some of the time on actual data.  Everyone using an Android phone or Google apps while connected to the internet is sending data back to Google.  This is how the slow areas are identified.  Google sees a bunch of devices in the area moving more slowly than normal.  In some cases, Google compares to the actual speed limit, but does not have speed limit data for many roads.  If I check the time to Atlanta, for example, at different times it shows different time estimates, due to road destruction, accidents, traffic, etc.  As you drive, Google takes some of these things into account.
