Tech Tips, Tech Questions / A/C help
« on: May 30, 2009, 10:19:22 pm »
some of you I talked with at the last meet may remember me talking about my son sweating in my car. before the engine blew, the air was really cold. of course in the process of replacing the engine I had to disconnect the lines from the compressor. well tonight I tried recharging the system. after my attempt.... no luck. the compressor wouldn't cut on. i bought a 12oz. bottle and still have a little left. Is there something I missing?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / SHE ALIVE!!!!! well almost
« on: May 02, 2009, 08:56:09 pm »
i found out what rob meant by smoke today :)

after I put in fluids, swapped coil and distributor, and connected the battery i cautiously tried starting it. i had a horrible noise when the starter turned. after some investigation, i discovered the starter shim was in crooked causing one the fingers to hit the gears. i fixed that and tried starting it again, it turned but didn't run. after checking the prime suspects, i found that i didn't have the plug wires right. once i got the wires right, she fired up and run like a champ. i played with the timing a bit and got it really close. then took it for a test drive. NO CODES!!!! and no more exhaust leak!

first thing i noticed was the speedo was pegged, i pulled over and found a loose connection a the tranny. i had to also take the gauge cover off to flip the needle back to zero.

my one concern is the tranny seems to acting up. when i came to a stop, it(tranny) bucked. almost like it decide what gear it should be in. also when i turn left from a stop, i press the gas but the car doesn't go for a moment. the engine sounds fine but i get a hesitation.

any ideas?

General Fiero Discussion / my engine swap
« on: April 26, 2009, 11:48:43 pm »
welp, currently the body is up the air, the cradle is on floor, and we are in the process of swapping the stuff over.

we ran into a BIG speed bump in the process of dropping the cradle. i have read horror stories of the rear cradle bolts spinning due to the nuts braking loose in the frame. our problem was the front bolts not wanting to come out. 2 hours we beat, twisted and soaked them with PB blaster. they finally came out, but man, it was brutal.

good times

locking the keys in it while they are in the ignition and the car running SUCKS. lol

luckly, my driver door hinges are worn and if i dont shut the door firmly, it leaves a gap at the window. i  manage to use a hanger to pull the ignition back and kill the engine. then i bent the close hanger to push the lock. it took a while, good thing it was a nice day out :)

General Fiero Discussion / march club meet
« on: February 13, 2009, 02:17:21 pm »
would you guys mind a little company? some of the local J-body members are wanting to meet up and i thought we could all meet up. just thought I'd ask first before inviting them. I normally organized the ga j-body meets, so of course they came straight to me with it.

what is a j-body you ask? the Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire, Sunbird and J2000, Olds Firenza, Buick SkyHawk and Cadillac Cimarron, my old obsession
