door hinge replacement
« on: March 14, 2011, 06:10:37 pm »
umm...yeah it's a P.I.T.A!!! My car has been in the driveway, doorless for a couple days. I brought the door in the house when it got dark and worked on it in the living room (the wife loved that). I just finished putting it back together and bolting it back on the car. now i gotta reconnect the electronics and interior panels back.

A couple things to remember:

-take the door off the car( a jack, and some blocks and/or a helping hand)
-you can access the hinge bolts through inner finder
-get a door spring compress tool OR like I did, a 4" C-clamp works
-find a set of ratchet wrenches( at least a 13mm and a 15mm)

dont ask me to come help :) i dont wanna do that again

I feel you, did a double-door-swap last week

But I had my fenders off, so access to the 3 outside bolts was easier than thru the inner fender.

the results after the repair is worth it. shuts smooth and no more squeak. I let mine go for so long, it took all I could just to get the to seal. I need to dig up a latch pin now. mine is wore in the middle :)

Just a little friendly reminder for folks putting this off. If you wait too long to fix a sagging door & keep using it & letting it drag on the latch pin, it will eventually break out the metal around the pin & then the repair is a whole lot more complicated. Remember it's probably been doing this for decades already...
