If you have to do it in the dark, save some money and use a trigger sprayer bottle full water. Leaking plug wires show up very well.
There are three kinds of men:

2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

That works every time, but only for leaking spark.

The thicker the insulation the dimmer it is. Plus if the coils are weak then that will affect it as well.

A neighbor used to have cows that thought the grass was greener on the other side of the electric fence.  This neighbor had a fence that pulsed.  Every time the pulse came through, the cows' knees would buckle.  When I got sparked by the car, I was smart enough to move away.  On the knee-buckle-meter, there qas plenty of spark.

Lisle sent me a video.  In all their examples, testing was done in the dark.

My old shop resembles a bit of a dungeon so maybe I'm just remembering it brighter because it was always dark. I haven't used it in some time.

Also if you are brave enough you can find bad insulation with wet hands. and maybe that's why I am not right in the head?

See my signature.  As a kid, I was #3.

Reading the comments on this product, apparently the prior version worked.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't leaking spark a bad thing?

It is, but this tool is supposed to show if the wire is getting spark and the intensity of the spark, through a good sheath. If there were heavy carbon tracking inside the cap that was robbing spark from a wire, it should show that weaker or no-spark condition.  The similar style tester that Wreck It Ralph showed in his link actually has a filament or bulb visible in the image.

I cant find it, but the image that came up had a pink end where you place it against the wire.  It wasn't a Lisle and cost 2x as much.

I looked back on your posts, but did not see that.

I've seen the one with a pink tip.  Looks like some sort of ladies' accessory.  Apparently, the Lisle one worked, when it had the anodized tip.

I've had one of those for 50 years. Still works. I like some of the 'test' suggestions tho. Sounds like a drug-free cure for what ails ya!
You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

50 years ago, we had quality products.  My, how things change.

Roger, you might want to either move the comma before the conjunction, or add a 't' to the conjunction, and change the comma (,) to a semi-colon (; ), in your signature.
