Overflow tank cap gasket?
« on: February 24, 2018, 04:35:08 pm »
I'm curious about the function of the coolant overflow tank cap gasket.  Did the Fiero come with one?  What purpose does this gasket serve, since the cap itself has vents?  The cap does leak fluid.  I've seen coolant bubble out the cap under pressure, but also, if the tank is inverted, the coolant will stream out of the cap.

It came with a 'cork' or 'paper' type gasket.
You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

Plastic to plastic doesn't hold very well.  The soft gasket grips both the lip of the tank opening and the inner surface of the cap and helps to prevent vibration from shaking the cap loose.

Like Roger said, the gasket was either paper or cork.  I've seen both but I don't know which was original.
