radiator fan relay
« on: February 18, 2014, 02:17:38 pm »
Hey y'all, working on getting my car road ready (still).......

I seem to have a problem with the connector for the radiator fan relay and cannot seem to find the proper relay at the various websites. Does anyone know what number the relay is so that I can the correct connector and pigtail..... Oh yeah : 86 SE 2.8 4spd.

Thanks, Scott

There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

I verified that the GM part number I gave you is correct.  I have two relays.  Maybe one of them is a good one.  I don't have a harness, though.

I may have one as well and will look for it tonight.
If I have one, it's yours for a donation to the club.
You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

Thanks yall....... the sensor is fine, the connector is shot. I have a new connector on order from Autozone. Their catalog doesn't show one for the Fiero, but an 86 Corvette uses the same relay. Hopefully that will work.

Does anyone have a picture of how it mounts? My car was crunched on that side and the relay was just laying under the headlight.

Thanks, Scott

It mounts on the front wall, directly in front of the headlight.  There are 2 relays in that area.  A small square one about the size of the headlight relay and the fan relay.  The fan relay mounts inboard toward the radiator and the other relay mounts outboard toward the fender.

The two relays I have are identical except in their mounting.  One has mounting tabs on the sides and the other has them on top.  Obviously, the spacing of the bolt holes is much different.  You could hang it by a single bolt, just as long as the bottom of the relay isn't turned upward toward the elements.

Got the new connector installed. The application was for an 86 corvette. There are a couple of extra wires that arent needed, but it seems to be working as intended.
