how to repair a windshield?!
« on: June 23, 2014, 09:41:31 pm »
I'm such a dope!  I was installing an updated rear view mirror, which was supposed to be simple, right?  WRONG!
I was basically finished, with a ten minute job, and i over tightened the mount to the button, and the glass came off with it!
How do i fix this?

You could try the same glue used to hold the button to the glass.
If that doesn't work, you may have to call a glass company, and get a new windshield. I used Safelite, and they did a good job.

Good idea with the glue. I've replaced the glue previously and apparently, it's stronger than the glass!  On the other hand, i could use a new windshield! I'll try the glue first. Thanks

Most of the glass companies offer a resin filler to repair little star cracks in the windshields.  Maybe they could put some of that in the cavity and insert the piece of glass you have and let it bond.  They usually charge around $80 or many insurance companies will pay for it rather than paying for a new windshield.

This might work.

I glued it, using the mirror button glue. I'm back in business. Thanks for the suggestion. It worked beautifully! ;D
