Rust stains in carpet
« on: July 05, 2014, 12:44:05 pm »
I removed the trunk carpet and have some rust stains. Any recommendations on what to use to clean the carpet and get the rust stains out?

I think Aerodonamic said he sprayed his down with WD40 then pressure washed it at the car wash.  I'm not positive about that so you might want to check with him.

I do remember that someone had used Resolve.  They had sprayed the carpet really well and let it soak in and then scrubbed it with a brush.  Then you'd probably need to spray it down with a garden hose to get everything out.

I just detailed my best friend's Jeep that I'm selling for him, and I used Hot Spot to take out some pretty set-in stains on the headliner.  It did not discolor the felt, so I assume it would be okay on carpeting, too; but like they say, "Test a small hidden area (under a seat) first!"

Then, there's always the old trick of cutting out the rust stained area if it's not too big, the cutting out a section of carpet from under a seat and gluing it down.
