Heat shields around transmission dip stick?
« on: September 15, 2019, 09:21:32 am »
Somewhere, there is a picture of these shields, but I can't find it.  My Fiero does not have these shields, and I don't recall them ever being there.  Did some years not have these shields?

Didn't I send you a picture when you were wanting one of the VSS?  My yellow car had one that was painted red.

Something like that, but it beats me where the pic is.

After some research, I have determined that these shields did not come on the '88 V6.

That makes sense.  I think they bolted to the cooling tubes.  I just looked at the 87 and it doesn't have the shield but it's a manual trans.  No VSS or wiring to be protected.

The VSS is under the cruise canister.  In that area, anyway.  I'm not sure what the shield was supposed to protect.

I was referring to the location of the VSS and wiring harness on the automatics.  They did come on the manuals because some of them don't have the dipstick hole punched out.  I can look down in the engine bay and see the muffler which I don't recall being able to see before.  I think maybe the muffler shop may have removed the shield when they put on the new muffler.

Scott.  Anybody.  Got a muffler shield?

The muffler shop should give you back your parts.  Of course, since you probably sihned the form authorizing them to dispose of parts, and that was several months ago, likely gone.

I'll check my Formula tomorrow.

I was looking in the wrong place.  Here's the thread:

...and your pic w/the red shield, fierofool.

My Formula (88) doesn't have a heat shield like the red one. It does have a heat shield over the muffler, in that you can't see the muffler by looking down through the open rear deck.

It's been many months since the muffler was replaced.  I'm sure the shield is long gone.  I didn't sign any papers other than an electronic transfer of funds when they gave me back my check.

I'm pretty sure my parts car has the muffler shield, if you want it. Shouldn't be too hard to remove either, since the muffler is already out (and on my yellow car).

Thanks.  I suspect there's more missing than just that one shield that attaches to the cooling tube and wall of the trunk.  I recall that the 87 also has a rubber skirt down in that area.  We'll get together after RFTH.

I just looked at the P22 and there are a total of 3 shields indicated.  The one GTRS has in question, and it seems there's a smaller one, both of which are called dust shields.  Then there's a larger one that insulates the trunk wall, similar to the one on the front firewall.  Part #10035379
