General Discussion / Free Stuff
« on: February 02, 2020, 05:47:46 pm »
If you are coming to the February meeting and need wiper blades or oil filters post up what year, model and engine size and I will bring you some goodies. I might have wipers for a Fiero but don't have oil filters that fit unless the engine has been swapped. Mostly Japanese and Korean cars but lots of others. These are leftovers from my shop and need new homes. The filters are NAPA Pro-Select filters and the wipers are either NAPA or Valvoline brands. The wipers are probably made by Trico.

I also have about 10 quarts of 20w50 Castrol and Conoco and 8 quarts or so each of straight 30 and 40 weight non detergent oil.

General Discussion / Windows 10 running in S Mode
« on: October 17, 2019, 12:35:20 am »
Hopefully GTRS Fiero or TopNotch can chime in. I recently bought a small Acer laptop that can convert to a tablet that I really enjoy. It comes from the factory running Windows 10 in S Mode. All I really know about that version is you can only download things from Microsoft. I can opt out of "S MODE" but if I do I can't ever go back. I want to install winALDL as recommended by GTRS Fiero but can't without opting out. Is there a good reason to stay in S Mode?

General Discussion / CariD.com problem
« on: October 15, 2019, 01:04:27 pm »
I ordered a grille for my Audi from CariD.com and received it several days later. I opened it and compared to what was on the car and it looked correct. Last night I attempted to install it and it wouldn't fit. I needed a grille for an S4 and the part tag on the 1 they sent says A4. So I call them today and they tell me since its been 32 days since I ordered it there is nothing they can do. The return policy is if you aren't satisfied you can return it within 30 days. The fact that it doesn't fit the car didn't seem to matter to them. Now I'm out $85. Good customer service there huh?

General Discussion / Saturday Follies
« on: September 16, 2019, 07:17:39 pm »
First off I would like to apologize to each and every member of the club for my apparent inattention to club matters at times. I can assure you it wasn't or isn't intentional.

I've only realized in the last few weeks that I was somewhat depressed  for several months after the sale of Northlake Automotive in April 2019. I put my heart and soul into it for 5 years and still failed. I thought if I was honest in business that success was all but guaranteed. I found that mindset to be wrong. Even though I broke even with the sale to Mavis Tire I still lost out on income that I could have gotten at "REAL" job. I also found it is much easier to open a business than to close one down. There really aren't guides on what all has to be done to close down a Corporation legally with no ramifications.

Okay, on to Saturday... The renters at my house in Ball Ground Ga moved out at the end of September leaving quite a bit of damage. I've been working up there most days since they moved out. I was to meet the septic tank pumper guy at 9am on Saturday. At 9:30 he called to say he had mechanical trouble with the pump truck but was still coming. This went back and forth until 12:30 when I realized it just wasn't going to happen that day. Mid morning I had put my cell phone in the shade on a porch rail but when the sun moved during the morning it baked the phone until it shut down due to overheating. I obviously couldn't call or text anyone in the club to let them know what was going on. The phone still isn't right but it is 3 years old!

Having said that I can promise better attention to the club for the remainder of this year and hopefully next year if club members will allow me to make up for my shortcomings.

I can't make the RFTH this year with no running car and my daughter in Chicago rescheduling her trip to this weekend due to Hurricane Dorian a few weeks back. LOL

I'm not going to proofread this, I'm just going to post it. I apologize for any errors

General Discussion / question for the compter gurus
« on: September 03, 2019, 12:22:48 pm »
I have the hard drive from my old computer installed in a drive enclosure. How do I go about using it as a USB drive and access the files on it? When I hook it up I can see the files but don't know where to look for pics and PDF's I would like to bring over to my new laptop. Any tips?

General Fiero Discussion / AeroDONamic test drives
« on: August 26, 2019, 09:39:55 pm »
I had the AreoDon car out for test drives the last few days and have a few results to post. First off, the engine is no where near stock. Just ask the guy in the Porsche Carrera  coming out of Costco this afternoon.

Last week I was running the car in the driveway and it died. I knew it was low on fuel so I put 5 gallons in it and it started right up but the fuel gauge showed 3/4 full.  After filling it full at Costco today it now reads way above full. I hit every bump in the road hoping to shake the float loose but no change. I replaced the fuel pump several months back and the hanger and the float assembly seemed fine.

The engine dies if I'm at idle and the cooling fan comes on. Back when I first got the car running the cooling fan motor was going out unbeknownst to me. The first time the fan turned on it drew so much it killed the alternator. No fuses blew and no wires were warm.
I replaced the alternator with a CS-130 upgraded unit that has threads on Pennocks and The Ogre's site. I also installed a new cooling fan motor. Even though the fan blade seems to turn freely it is still drawing a massive amount of juice. It will sit and idle fine in the driveway with the fan running and cycling off like it is supposed to. Only when out on the road and at an idle, like waiting for a traffic signal does it kill it.
In 20 miles of driving it today it died probably 20 times. It does start right back up though. I can see the charge drop on the ammeter when the fan comes on and the charge continues to drop quickly and it dies. I verified that the only time the engine dies is after the fan comes on and the voltage drops.

The alternator charges fine and the battery tests good. I'll be checking that fan in the morning.

General Fiero Discussion / Turbine paint sprayer
« on: August 02, 2019, 09:06:37 pm »
Does anyone have any knowledge on this type of painting system? I wouldn't expect a finish as nice as our "Painter Members" could do but maybe close. For sure to spray primer for doing the bodywork before a wrap or paint job. Opinions?

Eastwood sells a unit for about twice as much as this one.

General Fiero Discussion / Disposing of Fiero remains
« on: July 24, 2019, 06:44:08 am »
I'm going to have to strip "Kermit" for parts due to not wanting to pay to store it anymore.  I can combine those parts with my 88' sc3800 and make a presentable car. If I strip it completely including the front suspension and rear cradle how do I dispose of the metal skeleton? Cut it up for scrap? Will a scrap metal buyer pick up the remains?

Maybe Scottb can chime in on what he is doing for the car we strip next month.

General Discussion / Garage space for rent?
« on: July 16, 2019, 05:23:11 pm »
Does anyone know of a garage/workshop space for rent in the metro? I came across one in Suwanee that was 1000 sq feet for $450.00 a month but it rented before I could even get a chance to call. Another was in Villa Rica at $600 but it went fast too. I don't need a retail space, just a place to work on and store some cars.
Thanks

General Fiero Discussion / What to do with "KERMIT"
« on: May 23, 2019, 08:06:00 pm »
As most of you know I have whats left of Whodeanies Kermit car. I'm strongly considering putting the wheels and the fastback panels on my 88. If I can duplicate the windshield conversion I will do it too. I will take some pics tomorrow of the windshield setup.

I bought the 88' notchback in Tennessee 6 years ago and brought it back on a tow dolly. It was originally a 4 cylinder automatic and was converted to a series 1 3800 supercharged using a kit from a company called ACE. I have all the paperwork from the conversion. I've never had the car running and driving but did drop the cradle when I first got it and replaced a few mounts and ran all new hoses for fuel, cooling and transmission. I have occasionally put Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders and spun it over till the oil pressure comes up. I believe it will run once I put on plug wires and belts etc. For the life of me I can't remember if I dropped the tank and cleaned it but the fuel pump does run when the key is turned. If you are not familiar with Whodeanie and the Kermit car I believe the search feature will get you some info.

The Market / 1988 GT T-TOPS IN MISSOURI
« on: April 13, 2019, 09:16:01 pm »
POSTING FOR AN ASSOCIATE IN MISSOURI

If you are interested in a rare, drop dead, good looking sports car with tinted T-Tops and excellent handling, this 1988 Fiero is it.  This one is very rare because Pontiac only built 614 GT'S with T-Tops out of 6849 manufactured.  The 1988 is by far the best one built because General Motors spent millions on the suspension and patterned it after a Lotus. Also very few Fieros have a glove box and faux wood dash inlay that this one has.  The car also features the following:  custom copper paint, 28,000 miles, newer leather interior, 4.3 Vortec V-6 engine, automatic transmission, custom 18' wheels with Z rated tires, cold AC (converted to 134 A), Nardi steering wheel with tilt, custom muffler and horn, vented 4 wheel disc brakes, power windows.  Safety rating second only to Volvo.  Everything works well.  I have added some new parts in the past few years to keep the car in tip top shape.  I have several manuals that also come with the car.  Call 636-294-1774.  Asking $14,400.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Air intake boot
« on: June 25, 2017, 09:00:31 pm »
I have a question about the V6 intake boot. I'm referring to the one between the air filter can and the throttle body. I borrowed the boot off the fastback formula so I could crank and run the Hulse coupe. The boot that was on the Hulse car had been taped up with duct tape, so I didn't trust it. The boot is a very tight fit on the Hulse coupe, being quite the struggle to fit it between the 2 points mainly because of the Isuzu shifter cables being in the way. Are all the boots the same? The fastback formula I borrowed from is a 88 with a Getrag trans and the Hulse coupe is a 86 with the Isuzu. Does anyone sell the boot new?

Thanks
