Muffler Needed
« on: November 12, 2018, 10:12:46 pm »
I need a muffler for a V6.  The muffler on my 87 is coming apart at the end.  I'll also spring for a new muffler if anyone knows what brand and part number to get.

The Spintech muffler was about $160.  You need 1 in, 2 out.  I think I got 2", which is too big.

I have secured an OEM muffler that has part of the inlet cut off.  I'll have to take it to a muffler shop to see if they can attach it to piping on my car.  I'm not out of the woods until I know, but I'm suspending my search at the moment.  Still, I would like to know the part number of the Camaro or Firebird muffler that everyone was using as a replacement.  I think it was made by FlowMaster.  Or maybe just tell me what year Camaro or Firebird it fit.  Thanks.

There's a small muffler shop here in town.  He's mostly a one-man shop.  He said he could do the job, so probably one day next week I'll take the car and muffler down and leave it for him.  The good thing about what I have is that all the springs and mounting brackets are attached to the muffler.  All he'll need do is bolt up the 2 mounting brackets to get it into position.  If you've never dealt with trying to hook up the springs to the mounting bracket, you don't know what an ordeal you're in for.

A joy of Fiero ownership.  I hope this fixes the exhaust leak issue.

Took down to the shop on Thursday afternoon so he could get started first thing Friday morning.  He removed 1 bolt from the muffler hanger, didn't have a flex head to get to the other muffler hanger and gave up on it.  Said he couldn't do the job, so the car's back in my driveway.

This was a muffler shop, and he didn't have tools for a muffler job?  I can positively say, "take it somewhere else!"

I haven't had the time nor the money.  I had gotten an online quote from either Midas or AAMCO for replacing the muffler but I never followed up on it.  I am guessing it was only for the muffler.  Seems like it was about $200.  I deleted their quote, so I don't remember exactly who or where they were.

Update:  I have a stock Fiero muffler now installed.  Working as it should.

Nice one.

After scaring myself thinking of the logistics of getting new exhaust bits..  I just finished removal, clean and repaint of the old system!

Is it hard to get an exhaust system, there?
