Ford Truck AC Recharge
« on: July 25, 2016, 09:45:59 pm »
Does anyone have a pump and gauges and can recharge my truck AC system this Saturday, July 30?

I have a pump and gauges. Happy to help. (So far) nothing scheduled for Saturday.

I need to pick up some 134a, once I find out how much the system holds.  I don't know if he drained any oil out of it, or not.  Guess I need to get the right oil for it, too.

I also need to pick up the door spring compressor either tomorrow or Wednesday, depending upon how much other things I can get done tomorrow.

I believe that most of the oil will settle in "low" places in the system (compressor, receiver/dryer, condenser).
I'm not thinking it lost a great deal, unless it was poured out.

Also, I think I heard that Wal-Mart has R134 for $4/can. But then, it's Wal-Mart.

I've consulted the Explorer Sport Track Forum and found that the whole system only uses 9 oz. of PAG-46 and 31 oz. of R134a, so I think it will be in pretty good shape without adding oil.  I have no idea of how he discharged the system.  I highly doubt he had any kind of recovery system.  Just pop the valve and let it blow.

I have a link from NAPA that lists the capacities and lubes for most vehicles, even going back to the R-12 systems (Fiero).  I'll ask pat to put it in the side bar Tech Tips.

They do.  Lots of it at the Winder store.  $4.88 a can.
