The Market / 3.4 and a ton of parts to go with it.
« on: February 05, 2023, 09:52:57 am »
Hey gents! Sorry I’ve been a bit scarce these days. New baby, bought a house, moved into that house, and new job have all had me tired up a fair bit.

But, I’m going to be going full steam into the Fiero again soon.

I have decided to shift gears on it and go with my 3800sc swap instead of using the 3.4 I have.

So, I’m trying to sell off the 3.4 I have, which has been rebuilt and balanced. With it, I have BOXES of new parts spanning from the Fiero store, rock auto, Rodney dickman, you name it.
If anyone is interested please let me know! Will gladly send a couple pics of the boxes and engine. Just let me know!

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / 3.4 block starter holes question/issue
« on: January 01, 2022, 05:07:16 pm »
So with the 87 I picked up, previous owner gave me a 3.4 engine.

Today I decided to get to work on the engine but….when lining up Rodney’s starter jig, to drill and tap the holes for the starter I noticed holes were already drilled.

But, the holes do not line up at all and when I bolt the starter using the holes the starter in angled and not straight…..

Am I being neurotic in thinking this block is basically fubar?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Coolant hoses?
« on: December 20, 2021, 08:36:54 pm »
Ok so I’m looking at replacing all of the coolant hoses throughout the car. Looking on fiero store, and it’s a bit confusing which I need to add to cart to have them all. Does anyone have a good set list that could help me understand it better?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Battery relocation
« on: December 10, 2021, 06:29:20 am »
So I would like to relocate my battery. Mainly to clean up the engine bay. How have any of y’all relocated it to the front? And how are your cables routed? Does anyone know of a “kit” or box that works for the relocation?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Control arm bolt grease?
« on: October 08, 2021, 09:52:06 am »
So hopefully this weekend i will be putting my front suspension all back together. I know you use the specific grease on the new poly bushing, but should i use some of that grease on the control arm(s) bolts as well?

Club Events / Chaz (Spartanzz) Restoration help
« on: October 02, 2021, 09:32:08 pm »
Hey guys! Looking for a few extra hands to help get a few things done with my 87 GT restoration project!

Day and time:
Saturday November 20th
I usually wake up around 9am and get started working on the car around 9:30-10am. So anyone is welcome to show up starting at 10am.

Location:
My Place
3455 Lantern View Ln, Scottdale GA 30079

I will plan to pickup some burgers, hot dogs, snacks and sodas for any who plan to come over and help!

I have gotten alot done so far but some extra hands for a day will help speed things along and help with some of the things that almost require some extra help.

Goals for the day:

Help dropping the cradle
Dropping gas tank
Tear down interior
remove body panels (where feasible)
assemble engine and identify all the damn bolts and brackets i have laying around LOL

These aren't required to be done. Just some things that would be great to have someone else help with and walk through with the wealth of Fiero Knowledge we have in this group!

I have a bunch of dewalt power tools and multiple socket sets, but never hurts for someone to bring extras!

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Fuel pump questions
« on: September 29, 2021, 10:05:40 am »
So interesting question regarding fuel pumps....

So most of yall know I have my 87 GT project. For now, I'm completing the 3.4 I have for it to get it back on the road. But, i do have the longer term plan to swap in a 3.8 S/C. I'm curious if it would be safe/ok to order and install the "upgraded" fuel pump that i would need for the 3.8S/C now instead of buying one for the 3.4 setup and an upgraded one later?

Would i run into any issues running the upgraded pump with the 3.4?

Just got my recond Heads back, but i cant find a diagram or the exact torque spec and sequence for the head bolts. Anyone got them off hand?

Also, there is a singular head bolt that is more of a stud than a head. Which spot does this one go in?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Camshaft question
« on: August 05, 2021, 04:04:45 pm »
So my project didnt come with a cam. Previous owner got rid of it. I am trying to find a good one that i can put in and in my search i found this one a rock auto: https://www.linkedin.com/in/charles-chaz-dills-94b46bb0/

My friend works there and can get me a discount. But, i will be running the factory fiero computer. Will this cause any issues with tune and such? Or and i good to go ahead and order it so i can get the engine put back together?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Hood won’t open
« on: July 22, 2021, 04:38:44 pm »
I can’t get the hood open on this 87 project. Hood latch cable goes nowhere and can’t get the latch to pop.

Any recommendations?

The Market / WTB: factory V6 exhaust manifolds
« on: July 19, 2021, 06:50:46 pm »
Don’t have a set from the parts pile from previous owner. Looking for a set so I have them ready when the engine gets put back together.

The Market / Machined front hubs (not mine)
« on: July 13, 2021, 12:42:41 pm »
Just in case anyone is interested there is a Facbook group called "Fiero". There a guy named Brian Sanburn makes and sells machined front hubs and brakets for a number of brake swaps and lug patterns.

I will be ordering a set of front hubs setup specifically for the Grand am front setup on factory 15" GT wheels.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Break upgrade options?
« on: July 06, 2021, 10:08:43 am »
So, I have started the process of ordering parts to start getting things replaced on this 87 GT.

But, first hurdle is the break system. The primary thing I am attempting to figure out is calipers and rotors. I know the front rotors are built in hubs, but i would like to find an option where I can turn those rotors in just hub and use a more normalized rotor setup for future maintenance ease. What are my options?

I was recently given an opportunity to pickup a 1987 Fiero GT that has been sitting for around 8 years (estimated). The previous owner decided to attempt a 3.4 swap on the car but was never able to finish it. He needed the car gone due to county rules of it sitting in his driveway. So, he offered it to me for free!

I went out one weekend to get the cradle placed back in the car (without the engine) in order to get the car good enough to drag up onto a trailer in order to get it into my garage. We were successful in the endeavor despite a few roadblock. And now, the Fiero sit happily in my garage with all of the spare parts, besides the rear bumper and original 2.8 engine block. The last few parts I will pickup once I get everything else organized and find a place for them.

The 3.4 block has been rebuilt already so its a matter of getting everything put back together and put it in (maybe)

The paint is shot, the suspense needs work and one of the stud studs is stripped. One cradle bolt capture nut came off making it impossible for me to get the cradle out, so I will be getting the Rodney Dickman kit to make the rear cradle bolts much better. Just need to figure out a solution for the stripped store mount bolt.

So, the plans for the car is to:
1. tear everything down and replace everything old with new and to restore any parts that cannot be replaced
2. upgrade and update everything I can. Suspens, breaks, interior items such as radios gauges so on and so forth.
3. Perform and engine swap to finish the 3.4 swap. I am debating on either 3800SC with an F40 or F23, or doing a Honda k24 swap. Still very undecided but I want 100% reliability, between 300-400 HP, and ease of finding replacement parts.
4. Get the body panels repaired and painted. Thinking about going with the Gold color the Fiero came with (since I used to own one in that exact color) with a twist to it (going to work with my paint guy to thing of something neat)

So that's where I stand right now. I am going to need some insight on breaks, suspension, wheels, interior, and engine upgrades. I am trying to keep the car overall stock looking (because I love the look of the Fiero completely stock. But wheels HAVE to be upgraded for better tire choices, looks, and overall better performance.

More will follow as I start doing some work on it! Any advice/info on the upgrades or restoration tip is greatly appreciated!

hey guys!

So this past weekend i went over to gasmasher's place and we were able to get the fiero on all four wheels and good enough to roll onto a trailer!!!

But, I'm going to need a little help. This coming weekend (probably July 3rd) i will need a trailer and a pickup in order to get the fiero and some of the bigger items over to my house in the Decatur area.

EDIT:
I would also be open to July 5th (if gasmasher is) Since i will be off the the holiday

Would anyone on here have a pickup/trailer and be available/willing to help out load stuff up and get some of this stuff over to my place?

I will of course help supply some gas money and will provide lunch, snacks, drinks, beer?

PLEASE let me know before Thursday so i can let gasmasher know what the full plan will be. Worst case i will rent a pickup and trailor from Uhaul but would like to avoid spending too much. (else my wife may lose her mind LOL)

let me know here or anyone can text/call me at 678-570-6816
