trying to find a Aero nose that might need some work so I can get a good deal on it.
Anyone got something sitting in their garage or back yard or something they can make a deal on. I don't care for the pointed node on my Sport.
-
check with aerodonamic he used to have aero front and rear ends in his back yard .
-
Will do, thanks
-
If you decide you want a rear aero fascia too, I have one with a small scrape and puncture. I don't have the egg crate for it, though. Be aware that the fender well liner is different for the aero package, so you will need those, too.
-
also have a rear 85 gt bumper with a little mess around the reflector holes where i try to change them to back lights- enough said, yours for free if you want it.

I had saw something about that but didn't know the difference. Are they bigger or smaller or just different?

Who can pass up free. Yea I would love to grab that from you. What city are you in?
Thanks

When and where is the next meeting? I'm sorry, I know I've read it somewhere. Like the last Sunday of the month or something? I didn't pay attention. I need to get to a meeting to introduce myself anyways. :-)

So the 14th of May right off Hwy 85. Perfect. I can make it on my way home from work at 2:30pm.... That would be awesome. It's VERY convenient for me.
-
I'm sure we will still be there @ 2:30 PM. We usually hang out in the parking lot after grabbing a bite to eat
Too bad you can't make it @ 1:30
And I actually get there via 285 going East, Chamblee-Tucker Road I think.

I will try to get there a little earlier if I get here and find out I have enough folks to work my job I might be able to slip out and hour early. :-)

The difference is that there's a small filler piece on the Aero liners that fills the aero feature at the bottom. The base fenders curve inward at the bottom while the aero fenders stand out in that area. I've also heard that some of the attachment screw holes don't line up, but I can't confirm that. It's a common swap, so there can't be many obstacles. If you do go aero, you'll need the egg crate underneath, plus a few more pieces.
-
Oh yea, I forgot about that egg crate.
I definately want to go aero. I love that look and I'm putting so much time and effort into this Sport, I would rather have it the way I want it before I wrap the body in color.

which style front nose do you have on it now?

I was thinking about coming down to visit you, but after seeing that dead body in the right of the pic....well, I dunno.
-
LMAO! That was funny. Made me laugh sitting here at work in front of everybody....
Yea, my friend was standing there and I don't know what he was doing as I took the picture.
-
LOL! Standing??? Doesn't look like he was "standing". Looks rather life-less to me ;D

Yea, he looks kinda lifeless anyways.....j/k
He's a young kid that likes to watch me work on the car to see if he can learn anything about them.
His car wouldn't start 2 days ago. Who did he call? You know it.
I'm the resident handy man... LOL!
-
Well, if you do get an Aero nose let me know, I'd probably be interested in your old one, as I can't seem to find the parts I need for my Formula nose, so I might just put on the old base nose.

Ok, will do. The nose is in good shape. Haven't found anything other than some pollen on it. :-)
I'll let you know if I find something.
Thanks

"the don" i was at our salvage yard today and i took a look at the "87 coupe" and it looks like the air dam is made in three pieces, looks like to end pieces about a foot look and a center piece. the car is setting on the ground,no wheels( i bought those last year )so it was hard to see if the center portion was still good. is that the one you are looking for?
-
I don't have the 88 here at the moment, but I seem to recall that it's a one piece air dam. Same as the 87.
Jason, if you do find an aero nose, make sure the molding matches yours. There's a ribbed and a rounded molding. They won't match, otherwise.

Exactly what I'm looking for. As I said, don't care if it's in pieces, I'll patch it up. It'll be under a LeBra anyways
\D
-
Yea, Mine is the notched trim instead of the round. I like the round but the notched is ok as well.
I drove by the junk yard last night but it was late. I just went by to get the phone number to give them a call.
-
The 85 GT, and 86-87 SE have aero noses with notched molding.
-
the don- the yard said they would prop it up so i could get to the air dam- they want $25.00 dollars. what holds that piece on?
-
If I'm not mistaking, 7mm screws like in the fender wells
Would you pick it up for me? That would be awesome and much appreciated.
\D
-
exactly what does this thing look like? does it hang down to catch the wind for the radiater or does it lay flat behind the back edge of the front bumper? when they lifted the front of the 87 coupe it didn't look like i thought it would. all there was was the flat piece bolted on behind the front bumper just continuing the aerodynamic flat surface under the front end.
-
I would describe it as an extension to the spoiler or ground effect of sorts. It's fastened to the bottom of the nose vertically
\D
-
-
the don the only piece under the nose of the 87 coupe was the flat piece that extended the front underside. the bumper ended and the flat piece continued on from there. did you guys check with areodonamic i thought he had aero front and rears in his back yard. there is the 86 gt in the yard , i looked at the aero nose it kinda looks like someone put their hands on the top and dented it in a little. it didn't look cracked , i don't know if it would pop back out or not.
-
THis is the part I need:
-
sorry don that part was gone, but i will keep my eyes open. i do know a guy that has a 86 2m4 with a 5-speed that needs restoring bad. he was asking $500.00. its been sitting there quite awhile. i don't know if that has the part you need or not, but i'm pretty sure he wouldn't part it out. he lives on route 53 a little east of Fairmont.
-
No worries, I appreciate you keeping an eye out for it and I apologize for hijacking jwrape's thread here ;D

How much resotring does the 86 need?
Trying to get my neighbor and my daughter into Fieros

Jason, I just got an email from OldOne from C'ville telling me that there was a guy on Pennocks that was wanting to trade an 88 aero nose, egg crate and wheel liners for the same from an earlier coupe. I haven't looked at PFF, but it's probably in The Mall. Check it out.
-
Great, I will look into it. Thanks
Edit: I didn't find anyone wanting to trade. Maybe I got there too late.
-
don its been sitting out side for about 5 years, he said it ran when it was parked, its gold with tan interior. it doesn't look any worse than any $500.00 fiero. lots of clean-up. i had the guys name and number but can't find it now. if you want to see it i could meet you there to show you where it's at.

Dewey. PM me your no. and I'll see if I can get my neighbor aligned with a mutually acceptable day and time
He figures that now that I'm a Fiero expert (Which I'm not!) he can risk buying a project car and I'll help him thru it. I will, but first thing I'll make him do is join our club! ;D

You don't have to be an expert, just have to love workin' on em'

.......... and that I do.
Although, working on them at times has created new additions of words and exclamations to my vocabulary! ;D
\D

don i just found the mans name and phone numbers, i'll pm them to you

Much obliged
Again jwrape, sorry for hijacking your thread ;)

jwrape i emailed fierofool the mans email address for the aero swap.

No luck so far.

how about a brand new never been used still packaged original aero nose in the $400.00 range?
-
jason were you able to get ahold of "85gt"?
-
Jason, I have a front and rear aero off my 85GT, No damage to them what so ever....

I just PM'd him.
Thanks

Jason, I probably have anything you need....

I will be at the meeting in my 86GT on Saturday... Ill get to meet everyone. See y'all there.
I wonder if I can strap a bumper to the rear hatch. :-)
-
If you open the hatch, place the fascia in there with the tips pointing toward the back, you can fasten it down with bungee cords. It travels very well. I don't remember if I turned it upside down or right side up, but it was facing forward toward the engine. From Commerce to Auburn via I-85. Doing this is the only way I know to make the Fiero spoiler exert downforce on the back of the car.

is that all you are looking for is the free rear bumper?

Nah, I don't want you to think that, I'm not a Jerk. Bumper or not, I'm coming to see some nice Fiero's too and meet you guys. I don't know what these meeting are about. I got off early from work to get there at 1:30pm since you guys suggested it. I've actually only been to one car show, and that was for my Mustang back in the day.

I am gonna be miserable driving home on Saturday without air conditioning. Yesterday was miserable in 90 degree heat. The car overheated in the traffic REAL fast. I plan to burp the system, that's an art from what I've read about the heater core hose etc...and add a larger fan to the radiator and pray that fixes it. I'm also ordering a new 180 thermostat.
-
On many cars, turning on the AC puts a load on them, causing them to run hot. In the case of the Fiero, it helps to keep it cool. The engine, that is.
When the temperature control buttons are in the Max, Norm, or Def position, the cooling fan is energized. We often unplug the cycle switch on the receiver-dryer when we're running in the hills. Climbing mountains and constantly running in 3rd gear raises the coolant temp, so we turn on the AC and they don't get a chance to get hot.
Try the AC trick before you get into bumper to bumper traffic. Keep it cool rather than trying to cool it down. Probably no need to go to the lower temp thermostat as that can sometimes cause it to run too cool, telling the ECM to dump more fuel into the system.

That's a good Idea. I assume the A/C being will turn up the speed of the fan.
The GT doesn't have a compressor on it anymore. I plan to fix that soon but I also assume it will act as if there is a compressor there and adjust the idle and the fan speed right. That's been my experience before with other cars.
-
The Fiero cooling fan is a 2 speed fan. ON and OFF :) It doesn't run unless the engine fan switch is closed by higher temperatures, or when the AC circuit is energized. Energizing the circuit also tells the ECM to bump the idle speed up about 150 RPM to handle the additional load from the compressor.
The circuit doesn't care whether or not there's a compressor. At the same time the cooling fan is energized, the engine cooling fan in the right side of the trunk is also activated, blowing cooler air onto the alternator and ignition coil.

Oh I had read about the trunk blower, but didn't realize it was in every GT. I'll have to go look at that.
-
It isn't only for the GT. It's part of the V6 engine group, except that it was eliminated in the 88 model year.

88' was supposedly the year that they fixed all the overheating issues right?
-
I'm not aware of any modifications to the cooling system going all the way back to the 85 V6. I think they just decided it wasn't necessary.
The 2 major improvements to the 88 was the internally balanced engine and the suspension. The 87 and 88 got some improved oiling.
-
jason i didn't mean anything i just wanted to make sure you still wanted it otherwise i won't bring it. also i knew you were having some issues with some interior parts and wondered if there was anything you needed?
-

OH! Sorry I took that wrong, I thought I might have offended you. LOL! Hard to get emotion over a keyboard. :-)
Um, I can't think of anything specific that i need.
Did I mention something in another thread? I have a real BAD memory, for a good reason, but still a bad memory. Things leave my memory almost as fast as they go in sometimes, I'm getting better remembering though. :-)
-
i thought i remembered something about a radio surround with holes in the top from aux gauges and a warped glove door.
-
i thought i remembered something about a radio surround with holes in the top from aux gauges and a warped glove door.
Oh, I have the warped console door. It's pretty bad but manageable after some gluing. Both of my cars radio surrounds are cracked but I think I am gonna buy that black out dash kit for the GT and not worry too much about the Sport.
The Console door is presentable now

The radio surround in the Sport is cracked on the top right screw

The GT's console cover is VERY soft and plyable, that one should glue up nicely. :-)

The radio surround in the GT has every hole cracked around but not bad looking otherwise.

I'll show ya the car on Saturday. You guys will have to tell me what you think of the ol' girl.
The paint on the GT is shiny, but has a lot of chips that reveal the Red original color and also show the inexperience in spraying a car( Runs, bad clear coating etc..) The car has that 5' rule where it looks good standing 5' away.
-
jason are you still needing a aero nose?
-
jason are you still needing a aero nose?
Edit: Oops, I thought you were someone else.
Yes I do. I have the rear one from you that i was going to most likely install on the sport after I patch it. I have started wet sanding the Sport on the roof and starting there so it will be a little bit before I get down to the bumpers for prep.
