The Market / 1984 Fiero for sale
« on: June 20, 2022, 06:45:31 pm »
1984 Fiero SE. Located in Snellville GA. Black w/gray factory interior.  4cyl, Automatic trans. P/W, P/L, P/M remote trunk release. New tires, new brakes, new struts/shocks, many other new parts. Factory Pontiac CD player. Homelink mirror. Louvered and solid engine bay cover plates included. The louvered ones allow for added heat dispersal in the summertime. New speakers in the headrests and dash. Now for the problems. The transmission will not stay in gear. Car will move about 30 yards then it acts like it is in neutral no matter what gear it is in. The connection on the P/M switch is loose and the mirrors will only move in two of the four directions. They did both work correctly until the car was parked. The driver's side P/L has a bad power or ground as the passenger side works fine. Again, it worked until it was parked. The passenger side headlight motor will not always shut off when down. It works correctly about half the time. The final item is the fuel tank. It is from a junkyard; it was punched out and patched. The internal baffling has shifted, and it now obstructs the fuel filler neck. The car can be filled, you just have to go really slow. I am a member of the club, contact number is 770.402.9633. price is 1,500.00. Not sure if the pictures will show on this post i can e-mail or text them.

Club News / Re: THE PARTS BARN

What are the chances of finding a power mirror switch and a passenger side power mirror in the parts barn? I don't really know who to ask or what the inventory is.

General Fiero Discussion / Re: 88 Fiero at Pull A Part
« on: December 23, 2021, 09:20:12 am »
I forgot to mention, the crews police the lot every evening. Anything left lying about in the isles is unceremoniously and randomly tossed into the nearest vehicle. So it the car is full of stuff that doesn't belong to it, it probably is from something near by or around it. They don't care what it is or where it came from they are just told to clean up the lot. That also means that if the part you are looking for isn't with the car, look around it might still be there.

A lot less left now. This was a fully loaded GT with power everything. I used to work at this location and can tell you a few inside things. 1st, the main thing of value for PAP are the Catalytic Converters. That is where they make their money back on the purchase of any vehicle. Everything else they sell is gravy. 2nd, a car will arrive and sit in a prep area for up to two weeks before they get it ready to go on the lot. That could be shorter if they have the manpower to run the prep area,(very high labor turn over rate). When draining out the fluids they punch a hole in every gas tank and most oil pans. It is the fastest way to remove the fluids. Unfortunately, with a FIERO tank that usually brakes the internal baffling loose rendering them useless even if you patched the hole. 3rd, there is a individual or company that gets to the lot as the vehicles are being placed and grabs every front/rear plastic or urethane bumper cover assembly that is unmolested. Those end up in the second hand crash market for minor accidents that need bumper covers and a quick respray. 4th, for cars in this short supply it would be best to have an organized effort to grab EVERYTHING. If we have a parts barn available then surgically stripping everything and tagging it all for storage would be an excellent idea. I'm not suggesting hoarding everything just don't let it get scrapped. I'm still kicking myself that I let that Iron Duke block get crushed from the 84 that was out there just two months ago. I personally got the remaining wiring and parts for power locks and power mirrors from this 88 so I can option out my 84. 5TH, vehicles sit on the lot for approximately 2 months. After that they are taken to the back, the drivetrain is ripped out with a giant claw and the engine and trans are separated and sorted for the accessories, aluminum, and cast iron. The carcass is pancaked and taken to a processing center where it will be melted to make new Hondas, Toyotas, and KIA's.

General Discussion / Re: Electric Crate Motor
« on: November 08, 2021, 11:36:37 am »
The motor is only about 1/3 of the equation. The inverter/speed controller and batteries will still need to be sourced.  It will still be closer to 15,000 to really convert anything. That's if you can find enough places to stick the batteries. Manufacturers will need to come up with "LEGO" style batteries that can be placed next to and on top of each other and in smaller sizes than traditional batteries come in.  That will open up more options for battery placement in a larger number of older cars. If the entire package could be had for under 8,000 I would seriously consider converting an older car when the vehicles internal combustion engine needed to be replaced.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Re: low idle condition
« on: November 05, 2021, 07:51:06 am »
I know what I'm doing before the Georgia game this weekend. That IAC seems like the first and easiest item to start with. Cleaning things carefully is usually a good idea.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / low idle condition
« on: November 03, 2021, 01:49:55 pm »
I have an early 84 with the 4cyl and automatic. The engine starts correctly, the high idle during warm up in choke mode is correct. As the engine warms up the idle comes down in steps like it should. With the car in park and fully warm the idle is about 900-1000. Drop it into gear, foot on the brake, the idle drops to about 500-600 and the car tries to shake itself apart. It does not like idling that low, put it back into neutral and the idle comes up and everything smooths out. Is there anyway to increase the RPMs with it in gear? I basically have to put it into neutral every time I come to a stop.
