Just a heads up, May 7 Buick, Olds, Pontiac Cadillac show 41st annual event.  BBQ on Friday for registrants.  Thinking of taking 56 wagon in survivor class. my Fiero is not nice enough but some of you have nice ones.  They have a class for them Class R 1980 through Current Two-seater CLOSED and OPEN: Allante, Reatta, Fiero, XLR

The Market / Another Fiero on BAT -1984 V8 supercharged

Lots of Fiero's on Bring A Trailer recently, mostly the usual low mileage stuff.  Been selling well, prices are definitely up.  This car looks like a hoot but I worry about a Getrag with a supercharged 350, got drive gingerly I guess.

General Fiero Discussion / Mookeeh lowering struts and camber plates
« on: March 01, 2021, 03:25:52 pm »
www.mookeeh.com  They list short/stiffer struts and shocks and rear camber plates.  They sell on ebay as well.  These are the first camber plates I've seen, but really have not been looking.  Are they really needed for a seriously lowered fiero?  I have a hard enough time climbing in and out without it being lower so not in my area of interest but thought I post for others if they have not seen them yet as I think they are new to the market.  I found them originally through an Instagram targeted ad.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Larry's Fiero Dilemmas
« on: December 07, 2020, 05:26:49 pm »
OK time I started a thread to fix the issues that are starting to creep up with regular use and bonehead operation.

#1 current high idle issues: seems stuck between 1800 and 2000 which makes driving no fun.

Since pulling the distributor I have been having very high idle issues.  I pulled the intake rubber snorkel tube today to to block off the idle port and check for vacuum leaks.  Well something is up.  Before when I had a high swinging idle issue I covered the small idle port the car would die.  Now it drops way down to 500rpm and keeps running.  I sprayed ether and used propane all over looking for a vacuum leak with the idle port close off and no dice.  Listened all over too and cannot hear a leak.  I next covered the whole throttle body opening and it dies.  The extra air must be getting in around the throttle plate because it is not getting air from anywhere else I can find.   I am not getting throttle to reset properly?  The factory plug over the adjustment screw is in place.

#1a I was not getting a check engine light but tried to see if there were any codes.  Well I was not even getting the 12 code so I tore apart the dash to find no bulb.  Put in the bulb from the seat belt light and get the normal 12 and a 21 for throttle position sensor.  The light does not stay on all the time but the code is there. Could this be part of the idle issue?  It has had a buck and stumble around 3000 rpm just off and picking back up the throttle.  I have a spare from Charlie to try but have been afraid to change as the screws seem stuck.  I only tried removing with a screwdriver like handle tool and I could not budge them. If I use a wrench to get leverage and break them off what is the recourse?  Drill and tap?  lightly nervous about messing this up.

The Market / 87 GT 31k miles 5 speed on BaT

Here we go again.  I think this is a bandwagon car.  Not an 88, crusty underneath, what will it bring?  $6k max

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Shift light in a 5 speed glowing
« on: September 07, 2020, 07:49:03 pm »
For some reason I thought the 5 speed cars did not have an active shift light.  In my 88 the upper right dash light looks to be a arrow pointing up.   It does not come on if I rev it to nearly red line.  But the other day in 5th around 83 mph it started to faintly glow, approaching 95 mph I could tell it was lighting up a bit more.  That was as fast as I wanted to go, she got a little floaty.  Normal or odd?

General Fiero Discussion / Pontiac parts and illustration catalog
« on: August 12, 2020, 06:10:26 pm »
is the 1984-88 P car Pontiac Parts and Illustration Catalog a useful book to own?  seem to be around $75 to get one in good shape.  It looks to have exploded diagrams and a listing of all part numbers for each part.  I have these types of catalogs for my old boat motors to be able to search by factory part numbers for obsolete parts on eBay and they are invaluable.  Lots of people buy out old dealer stock and list by part number on the packaging not knowing what it is for.

Anybody got one, use it at all?  Don't bother?

The Market / 88 5 speed yellow Formula in Griffin, GA
« on: June 29, 2020, 12:44:16 pm »
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/3208600842531404/

Went to look at this the morning.  Its too rough for me, somebody else may want it.

Floors bent badly from jacking, battery side rust, both trunk shelves rust, frame rails solid.  Looks like all the front body was replaced and front wheel wells cracked, I guess it was hit at some point.  Original bits of yellow faded, repainted front was a crappy job that is cracked and faded to a lesser degree.  Seats shot, dash cracked and gooped up with RTV, plastics coming apart, gauge cluster missing screws and hand a funny tilt to it.  New tires and runs pretty good.  Stainless aftermarket exhaust does not have that Fiero burble.

Asking $2800, I told him closer to $1800 would be high but even at that price I was not the guy.  Very understanding nice guy, but not an enthusiast owner.  Wife wants it gone, he would not mind keeping it.

The Market / The dreaded whats it worth thread, Modified Cars
« on: February 17, 2020, 10:13:40 pm »
Ok so I have been watching the marketplace for about 6 months now.  I have a feeling for general values. As I'm searching for a Formula I've been researching them from all over.  I can fairly well predict stock cars with various mileage and condition, outside time capsule cars, but I have no idea on modified cars.

The car in question is a Formula that has had near $25K invested in "professionally installed" extras, engine, transmission, powder coating and paint work. Odometer reads 132K with a used 70K mile 3.4, used 65K mile Getrag 5 speed, new clutch, replacement hood, overall new paint and replacement interior with a clean used example and Mr. Mikes leather seat covers, digital dash conversion. All done at TFF in 2013.  (sounds like they started with a less than clean car needing hood, paint, interior)  Lots of powdercoating including suspension was done at a second shop.  Big corvette disc kit front and rear, lowering coils, urethane bushings, good looking but cheap aftermarket aluminum wheels and a "custom stainless exhaust" all installed by what the owner called a Hot Rod Shop.  The current owner bought it from the hot rod shop with 5k miles added since it was at TFF.  I have to assume it was some sort of mechanics lein sale.  He has a stack of receipts from the past building owner who he claims was anal about the build according to the shops he contacted looking into the car.

It is a super clean car, fresh paint, good tires, the 3.4 and all the TFF stuff is a pro install and I cant argue with extra power.  It is black and grey and 5 speed, perfect!  Hate the dash but he said he has the stock gauges.  Speaking with the owner I got the feeling that the folks who worked on it after TFF were not total pro's.  He seems to not be a car guy, though claimed to be a Pontiac man, but I get the feeling hes just a guy who thought owning one would be cool, until it wasn't.  Said a ball joint let loose as there was no cotter pin, I think it freaked him on the car.  So Id expect some things need fixing, including the A/C which leaks down fast he said.  It is 10+ hours away. Pretty firm at $7K.  The N.I.F.E price for a Formula in excellent is $3600 which seems to be where they sell on eBay give or take a thousand or two if they are nice, clean, moderate miles and well optioned driver quality cars.

I was interested just by the pics but having talked to the owner I have cooled on it a lot.  Where do cars like this fall in the marketplace?  Is it worth double book?  It would cost me a lot to add the same brake/motor upgrades to a stock car. Can I get a nice stock car to look like this with extra power for $3500 in upgrades? Are modified cars a pain?  There seems to be endless threads on PFF about cars with swaps that do not run well or at all.  I known have to keep a list in my chevy so I can remember what source cars all the different bits came from and I built it.

All opinions appreciated.

Club Events / April 12, 2020 Avondale Estates Easter Parade
« on: February 16, 2020, 01:15:34 pm »
This year marks the 22nd annual Avondale Estates Eater Parade.  It falls every Easter Sunday with a meet-up car show starting at 1:30 and the police led parade beginning at 2:30.  As discussed at this past months club meeting this has been designated an official club event and proposed to replace the regularly scheduled Saturday April 11 meeting.

the official announcement as follows:
April 12th: Easter Parade in Avondale Estates, GA • Sunday Afternoon, 1:30 PM The club has been invited to drive in the 22nd Annual Easter Parade through historic Avondale Estates. It’s for motor vehicles only. As always, we will assemble at the Twin Oaks Shopping Plaza, 2853 East College Avenue, Avondale Estates, GA, 30032. The parade will start promptly at 2:30 PM. The Avondale Estates Police Department will lead us through the residential areas. It is acceptable to carefully throw wrapped candy to the kids who turn out to see the vintage cars. We ALWAYS get a terrific turnout of people on the curbs. The parade will end at a designated area blocked off of the cars and people, where light refreshments will be provided by the host club, the Early Ford V8 club. Area residents are invited to join us at the park for a closer look. There will be fifty or more cars from the AACA, Model A Restorers Club, Early Ford V-8 Club, Peach State Cadillac Club, and other antique car clubs. The Avondale Estates Homeowners Association is very supportive of this parade. It’s in their newsletter, and it’s on their website. Please wear your name badge and introduce yourself. We look forward to seeing you! Questions? Contact Lamar Hart, Easter Parade Chairman lamarhart@outlook.com (770) 496-9928.

The event is co-sponsored by the Early Ford V8 Club, The Model A restorers Club and the Cadillac Club, but all are invited to participate.   The route takes us through the mostly 1920's-1940's Historic homes district.  In general there are around 50-75 cars in the parade who throw candy to the throngs of children and adults lining the route.  It takes around 4 Halloween sized bags of candy to make sure you do not run out before the end.  There is no charge for this event.  This year the V8 club is providing refreshments at the park at the end of the route.  There is usually a tent and port-a-potty at the end sponsored by the Avondale Estates Homeowners Association. Rain or Shine.

I will continue to add images and any new information to this thread as I receive it.

First is a shot through the windshield of my '47

General Fiero Discussion / Trailer Hitch
« on: January 24, 2020, 08:48:30 am »
I have a light weight 1952 aluminum runabout on a single steel beam trailer, total package is less than 900 lbs with a tongue weight right around 100 lbs. I noticed that there are old stock bolt on hitches readily available cheap on eBay for 84-87.  I assume 88 with its changes is different and had no aftermarket support.

Anybody know the towing capacity?  Anybody add one to an 88?  can the 84-87 be modified to fit an 88?

My usual tow rig and dinghy
