Club News / Board and Officer Elections
« on: October 11, 2021, 12:25:54 pm »
I am posting this here because I know some paid members cannot see the club business section of the forum.

It's that time of the year where we need to elect new board members for the club. Nominations are now open and voting will be done at the November 13th meeting. All paid members in good standing can vote in person or by proxy. Nominations will close November 13th just prior to the election. Once voting has started no new nominations shall be made. Please nominate in the forum thread and/or in person at the November 13th meeting. Nominee's must be paid members in good standing with the club or willing to pay dues before taking office. There are five (5) board member positions; Chairman, Vice Chairman, and three (3) board members. Nominated or elected board members may refuse the position.

"SECTION 3. DUTIES OF THE BOARD

The Board shall transact all financial and other business of the Corporation. It shall determine
the policies, fiscal matters, employment of staff, and other personnel conducting the affairs of
the Corporation."

The NEW board will then elect new club officers at the December 11th club meeting/Christmas party. The club officer positions are: Club President, Club Vice president, and Treasurer/Secretary. If no officers are elected then the board will serve as the club officers. If you would like to put your name in the hat for an officer position or nominate someone you can put it here too for the board to consider.

"SECTION 2. PRESIDENT

The President shall preside at all meetings of the Board, and shall perform all of the
duties usually pertaining to the Office of President, including preparation of the
agenda. The President shall have authority to appoint additional committees on an as
needed basis. The appointment of such committees must be approved by a majority
approval of the Board of Directors.

SECTION 3. VICE PRESIDENT

The Vice President shall perform the duties of the President whenever the latter is absent for any
reason, or cause.

SECTION 4. SECRETARY/TREASURER

A. The Secretary/Treasurer shall keep the minutes of all meetings of the membership and of the
Board; shall exercise general supervision over all Corporate records of every kind; shall take
care of all Corporate correspondence and related duties.

B. The Secretary/Treasurer shall have custody of all Corporate funds and negotiable items of
property, including checks, bonds, accounts receivable, and all other evidences of monies due;
shall maintain full and detailed records thereof and shall account therefor as the Board directs;
shall disburse all budgeted items of expense promptly; shall furnish bond for the faithful
performance of his/her duties as the Board shall direct, however, shall not be personally obligated
for the payment of any bond premium. Checks shall be signed by the Secretary/Treasurer for
disbursement of non-budgeted funds at the discretion of the President for discretionary expenses
not to exceed fifty (50) dollars per month; by the action of the majority of the Board for nonbudgeted items exceeding fifty (50) dollars"

The board and officers will officially take office January 1st, 2022.

Club News / The Robinson-Luedecke Memorial Scholarship
« on: July 12, 2021, 11:36:56 am »
As this next generation of children begins to reach adulthood, the push to get a four year college degree is seen as the only solution to achieve career success. Any other direction is frowned upon by parents and society. Unfortunately, this leaves a huge void in the labor market and ignoring a promising opportunity for today's youth.

College isn't for everyone and there is another choice. Careers in automotive and related fields are in heavy demand and can provide a lucrative alternative to college.

Over the last 30 years, blue collar careers have not been encouraged at the middle and high school levels. Districts around the country are putting more emphasis on four year college degrees while moving away from a viable option for everyone else.

Beginning in the 80s, vocational classes began to disappear to focus more on emerging STEM courses. It was always thought that shop classes were for remedial students and only lead to low-paying jobs.

Because of this negative perception, there is now a huge shortage of labor in the automotive industry. Not only are young students not getting into the trades, the older generation of skilled workers are retiring or dying.

This trend will get worse unless there is a shift toward more vocational training.

This scholarship was established by the friends, family, and colleagues of Jean Robinson and Robert “Trab” Luedecke. The Robinson-Luedecke Memorial Scholarship Fund (Est. 2021) provides assistance to students in the field of automotive technology and related applied technologies. Scholarships are awarded each year to Georgia graduating high school seniors or adults returning to college.

Scholarship Requirements:

  • Applicants must be pursuing a degree or certificate in automotive technology or a related field from an accredited college or automotive/technical/vocational institution. Provide proof of admission or that you are in the admission process.
  • Applicants must be a US citizen, national or permanent legal resident living or attending school in Georgia.
  • Type and email an essay, at least 500 words, about your passion and reasoning for pursuing a degree/certificate in automotive technology or a related field.
  • All applications must be submitted by November 1st, 2021.

Number of awarded scholarships will depend on funding but there will be at least one $500 scholarship awarded per calendar year.

For more information or to apply, please email GeorgiaFieroClub@Gmail.com.
