General Fiero Discussion / 85 fiero se with brake conversion question
« on: July 30, 2010, 12:13:16 am »
Hey guys,
So I posted a while back about my 85 fiero that needed help to get running and get back on the road because it had been sitting for years.  Well I decided to quit farting around with my friends that were taking their time and went to another buddies who actually worked at a very reliable shop.  Well its running now but it needs a radiator which I found on fierostore.com, which I will be purchasing soon.  But my main question was the brakes, I saw this vented brake conversion kit which was 419 total with the core price included in that.  And I wanted to know if I needed to change the master cylinder to the bigger one offered on fierostore.com, my buddy didnt say anything other than he might recommend me doing it because of the vented calipers and rotors.  He's a great mechanic I just dont know if he forgot to say something about it or if its not really necessary and if you guys could help that'd be great, thanks!

So the computer has been changed but the fiero still wont start, my friend told me that he was told the motor isnt getting any power, which i dont know what that means (not good with cars). And this blows because I wanted to have this thing running by the time it was nice out, which now it is but it still wont run!  So what else is there to do, im sure some of you guys have either come across the same problem or you can give me some more info.  Thanks again guys!

thanks for all the info guys, and i'm not sure about the radial's with the raised white lettering being discontinued.  as far as i know i've been calling a lot of places lately and most shops carry them that way in this size.

thanks, I went by the shop today and it said 215/60 and no wheel size.  but i am assuming their 14, looked for tires today and that size is a rare one.  Lots of ^%!)ty brands out there that make this tire size, i've decided to either go with the bfgoodrich radial ta's or the cooper cobra gt's, any suggestions?  and i'll let you know about the computer my buddies friend has one on order it should b here by tomorrow.

also could someone point me in the right direction for the correct size of tires?  I can't really get ahold of my friend too often to ask him little questions like this because he is always busy on other projects while my car is there.  But I've been told 2-3 different sizes with the several places I've called.  I have these wheels obviously the ones on top and its not a gt its an se i think if that matters, thanks in advance and sorry for the dumb questions!

So, its been a whole year since my first post and my fiero got put in the shop in the first week of january '10.  Sorry about the confusion before about if its a 4cyl or 6cyl, from what my dad told me I thought he said it was a 4 but its a 6cyl 4 speed.  So far my buddy installed a new fuel pump and filter, cleaned out the tank, checked all the fluids, and changed the rear rotors and pads (the fronts were still good).  It started right up but then it died about 5 seconds later, so he knew a guy that is into fieros and hes also a mechanic come check out the problem.  Diagnosed it and had the computer pulled out in 30 minutes, I guess the computer was fried, which he said could of been caused by a battery charger.  So now I'm just waiting on a new computer and pricing tires around the area and I should be good to go.  When it's done and I get the outside detailed ill get some pics on here right away.  Can't wait to get this out on the road, well after the winter of course.

hey i really appreciate it guys, for all the advice.   I was planning on buyin a new car soon but I figured with a little bit of money I could have pretty much a brand new car, considering the interior still smells like new :).  It's crazy cuz i just looked in the car n on the middle console where the shifter is it had the R, then 1-2-3-4, so i dont know if its rare to have a 4sp but I could take a picture if you wanted.  how fast are these things, I've never driven in one other than this and I was so little I dont remember.  I know their no corvette or anything but just wondering the stats.  Thanks again guys!

So I see some people are putting stories on here about their fieros, i couldnt really find any other user friendly sites with forums around illinois as good as this one, so here is my story.  My father bought me this car in 85 when I was born.  He had put 22,500 miles on it, its a 4cyl 4sp basically in perfect condition just a lot of dust from sitting in the garage.  He found it broken into after he got off of work one day which they broke the window and slashed the steering wheel, and the inside car door for some apparent reason, probably because he used to work security and im sure he pissed someone off.  He started it on and off, but then it was just forgotten and it kinda just sat in the garage for a very long time.  And im thinking the last time it was started had to be around the early to mid 90's.  So now I want to get it running my dad lives in arizona now, and I live in Illinois and he told me to do what I wanted with it.  Any advice on what would possibly need to be done to it, and how much, to get it back to a daily driver?  I wanted to get started on it around spring time.  Thanks!
