Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Broken muncie m17 clutch arm
« on: October 16, 2022, 01:23:55 pm »
So the clutch arm broke in my 85gt. I looked around for a replacement but the only new one I can find is at TFS but it says it’s for Isuzu 5 speed.

I’ve read several threads at pennocks with a couple of them suggesting the Isuzu 5 speed arm will work on the 4 speed Muncie.

Does anyone know if this will work or am I going to need to find a used one?

Todd has it reasonably priced. I planned on driving out to pick them up but was in for a shock when I plugged it into GPS. Going to see what shipping will be.

Down to the last few parts I need for my swap. I think someone makes an aftermarket 88 bar if I have to go that route but it looks like I’m going to have to hunt down some links at least. I’m also looking for an 84 econo 4 speed trans (my8)

General Fiero Discussion / Re: High School Project Car

Plan is to weatherproof using clear vinyl and riveted snaps like a golf cart. If it doesn’t work out I’ll just park it for winter. I have three other two seaters with doors that have been driven very little since spring that need some exercise.

Someone at work was going to do a frame off on his 85 gt 4 speed but lost interest halfway through the project. He emailed me offering to me free if I would take it that weekend otherwise he was hauling it to the scrapper. Lots of parts had been lost and there was just too much to fix or replace to make the car presentable. It did have several cosmetic parts that were better than what I had in my 2m6 (steering wheel, radio bezel, armrest, window glass, etc) so I swapped those.

Just needed a fuel pump and a new battery to get it running.  Decided to make a street legal  dune buggy / go cart out of it. Used this as my template:

Looks just like this including color but no lights on top and I didn’t remove the dash or hood. Weight at scale with a full tank of gas is 2300 lbs.

I met one of the students from the high school at the Oreilly’s next to my house today. I had pulled in the Fiero go cart I’m building and even without the skin he knew what it was. He said they’re excited to have the 86 SE  to work on. By the sound of it some seeds may have been planted for some future Fiero owners. Will be cool to see another one riding around Dallas when they get it running.

I’m only familiar with the one that came with my ‘85 SE. I’d be happy with anything so long as it will fit on an ‘85 gt and will fit in the factory storage location in the front.

Picked up a project car and the deflector is missing. Anyone have one they’d like to sell?

Non-oem would have been fine but after reading a not-so-inspiring thread  over at Pennocks I decided to just eBay a $20 pair of OEM ones off eBay. Still looking for a transmission though! Thx

Looking to buy a pair of wiper arms. Picked up a project car where all the parts were supposed to be ‘in the included spare parts box’ and, well, these weren’t.  :-\

Thx

The Market / Looking for 4 speed transaxle (4.10)
« on: November 06, 2020, 02:31:01 pm »
Hi, looking to buy a 4 speed manual trans out of an 84. I believe there are a couple of types of these, I’m looking for the m19 with the 4.10 final drive (although I wouldn’t mind a 3.32 for another project as well). I’m only using the gears and final drive so not too concerned about the condition of the case. Can pull if necessary.

General Fiero Discussion / Hello again
« on: October 10, 2019, 10:08:04 pm »
Hi everyone

I'm John from Dallas, Georgia. I have a '85 SE 2m6.  I've posted here a few times under a different account (Karidan) but it's been a few years.  I was unable to gain access that that account since the mail server on that domain no longer exists so here I am with a new account.

I had the opportunity to meet several of you at a club outing in 2016. On that day everyone emptied out the parts barn onto tarps and cataloged everything. My Fiero wasn't running at time but I bought a nice set of grey lace wheels from Fierofool while I was there.

Not long after that meeting my life circumstances changed and the car became my lowest priority. It took three years to get that chapter of my life behind me but things have settled down now and I've been spending much of my free time working on the car.

I believe in one of my last posts I had a picture of a huge pile of new parts to install- that stuff sat undisturbed for about three and a half years. Its all installed and I've been driving the car a few weeks now. Just reworked the AC last weekend and working out the last few things as I have time.

I have some errands to run on Saturday (also want to install the new dew wipes) but I will try to make an appearance at the picnic this weekend to reintroduce myself.
