General Fiero Discussion / My Fiero is famous!
« on: March 06, 2020, 10:06:53 pm »
Well, USED to be my Fiero, lol!  It’s going to be in a short series. Hopefully it will be a good ambassador to Fieros. Please look and you be the judge. I’m glad to see it live on in good hands.

General Discussion / Miss you guys
« on: November 10, 2018, 06:37:41 pm »
Have you ever realized, a little too late, that you had a good thing going after you’ve already gone?  Well, I’m comparing oranges to peaches and I miss the club like crazy. The club here just isn’t the same and probably won’t ever be. I don’t want to discount the efforts and legitimacy of the club here, but they just don’t have the same vibe as GFC. To be fare, I’ve only attended one meeting, but I’m debating on whether I’ll attend another. It just wasn’t the same. They have zero online presence.

Found this on accident whilst crushing the web.

It's a short, good read.

General Discussion / I'm bugging out
« on: May 06, 2018, 10:41:09 pm »
I've got orders from my employer to move (this time permanently) to the Orlando area. Unless you kick me off, I'm still going to lurk and stir the puddin' in this site.
I've got a couple pallets of stuff that need good homes, as well as 2 other fieros. One 87gt 3800sc and an 88 base coupe almost identical to the old club car, minus a motor, but has a 3.4 to go along with it.
Anybody know of an active club in that area?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / 3.4 motor mount recommendations
« on: April 25, 2018, 05:47:53 am »
My motor is wiggling like Elvis hips!  I keep blowing the factory motor mounts with my 3.4. I don't want solid mounts or super stiff poly. Any recommendations or observations to help guide me on my quest?

The Market / Get out your checkbooks!

I have acquired both thrush and Spintech mufflers that I can use for my 3800sc exhaust. Which one sounds better? I looked for a comparison, but couldn't find this specific comparison. I'm gonna run a cat too. I'm going for something mellow, less drone potential at highway speeds. Some loudness is ok when i punch it.
Also, any tips recommendations?
Ron

Ps. I forgot to mention they're both 1 in, 2 out.

The Market / Thinking about selling one
« on: March 02, 2018, 08:32:54 am »
85gt notch back.  F23 5speed. 3.4 swap. Dawg mod intake. Digital cruise. Mr Mike's seats. Good a.c.  7730 ecm.
Good tires, 17" wheels, good suspension. Paint is fading.
What valuation would you guys put on it?

The Market / Need getrag 5speed clutch fork and fork bearings
« on: December 09, 2017, 11:44:04 am »
I'm looking for a throwout fork and associated bushings/bearings to repair a fragged getrag 5 speed clutch. Looks like the fork bushings/bearings wore out which allowed the fork to contact the pressure plate, which ate up the fingers and fork and tob.  I have a new tob, just need the other stuff.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Naked Dash!
« on: November 09, 2017, 07:50:13 pm »
Lets face it, Nancy was right. JUST SAY NO (to crack).  Our dashes are brittle and it's time to recover, instead of repair.

First, I solicited the services of a hot stripper!

Then, took it all off!

When doing this, work slow and allow the heat to release the glue and soften the vinyl.  Working slow also allows the foam to stay behind, which is what gives the dash it's shape.

Any recommendations for stitching, pleats, fabric choice?  I'm going to drop it off at the upholstery shop tomorrow.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Flames in tbi!
« on: November 05, 2017, 06:59:38 am »
I'm trying to diagnose a rough idle on an 84 duke (which also had bogging on throttle tip-in).  I fitted a fuel pressure tester to it last night (it was dark out), and fired it up to check running pressure. Well, I noticed light coming from the intake cover wing nut holes and took a look through the space.  There was flame coming up through the iac and getting sucked down into the intake. I could smell fuel burning and I shut it down. I've smelled that smell before, so I know of one other occasion it's happened. I've never seen this before. What causes it?  How do I correct it?

In doing research for an ethics paper, I ran across this interesting read. So far, my unrelated research supports the generic claims made by this article. Those who know me have heard me make these same claims, albeit in inarticulate terms, but none the less, my thesis is the same.

I'm very happy to report the operation is a success!  Mr Mike's seats soon to be transplanted and the patient is reported to be doing well!

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Wheel size question 18x8 40 offset
« on: April 29, 2017, 08:54:00 am »
Any experiences in this department? I found some 18" wheels that I like and am wondering if they'd fit without surprises. I've referenced the chart on pff.  It shows no issues, but I'm wondering about hidden issues,.like rubbing in full-lock turning, catching ruts, general feel changes and expectations.
Offset is 40, so it'd be a little in more from the hub centerline than normal. Would 2mm make a difference?

Edit: currently stock hi-tech 6x14" 35mm. So it would be a 5mm difference from centerline.

On my 85, the upper a-arm pivot bolt sheath is loose. With it loose, it allows caster to move a few degrees forward and aft.  I don't notice it while driving, but it needs to be fixed.  Obviously, I need to weld it, but how best to do it and in what position is best?  Caster angles are what for pre 88?
