Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Re: Fiero Worky but Water Leaky

But the kit, complete with correct belt.  Keep the part number for future reference. The dodgerunner tensioner is the easiest money you’ll forgot you’ve spent! ...forgot, because you’ll never here a squeaky belt again and have to read forum posts from poor saps whom are still struggling with those woes to remember...
Money well spent!

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Re: high knock counts

From the ma and pa gas station just across the river into South Carolina on Gordon hwy.
You can tune your spark tables, just like tuning the fuel maps (tables). However, unlike going too far with fueling, whereupon the consequences are cooler heads and fouled plugs along with wasting fuel, going overboard on the spark tables in the higher load areas will result in a hole blown through a piston, overheating, and an even bigger hole blown through your wallet!  The insulation against those kind of activities is to utilize a knock sensor, that will dial back the amount of timing when knock is detected and save your wallet, er, I mean motor.

For tuning purposes and if you’re running the spark to the limit for more torques, you need some kind of protection. It’s saved my booty in other ways too, bad gas has set it off. There’s other things that you can use the sensor for, but that requires a turbo-Choo-choo rig.

Sounds like heater core noise. Air gets trapped in them. Sometimes, when it works it’s way out, it makes other, more concerning noises as it burps out of the front reservoir.

General Fiero Discussion / Re: 7730 code reader

the different files are for different things.  adx for gathering info, bins are the ecm os, and xdf is the translator for reading the bin.
the way i read your post, you wanted to hook up to and monitor or log the parameter variables.  the adx is all you need for that.

winaldl wont work with the 7730.
in Tunerpro using $88:
to setup tunerpro to speak $88, go to "acquisition" and choose "load definition" that you downloaded previousely from somwhere.  it will be an adx file. I attached my favorite $88 adx here.
then setup how it comminicates to your interface of choice by going to "tools" and choosing "preferences" and click on the "data aq/emm" tab.  then choose the choices that get your interface going.
next, plug in your interface to car and computer, then open tuner pro, or already have it up before plugging into the aldl.
turn key on, then wait for tx/rx lights to show packet movement, then click 'left-right' arrows at toolbar.
success will yield a blue status bar at bottom of page frame, green if recording logs, red if problem, yellow if nothing.  other status info will be found at the bottom as well.
Hope this helps!

Need to know what code mask and what pc reader program you’ll be using. You could also use android too. What kind of interface do you want to try?  Red river makes turn-key interfaces, or you can bull-hockey your own simply by breaking out a ttl comm board.

I like the design, but you may want to hold out for 17’s. The tires are much easier to get at a decent price. I don’t know how 17’s fit on an 88, but they fit perfectly on my 85. I got pre 2005 GTI wheels and if you stick with vw, the center bore is perfect size.

When I did the dawg mod, I left the egr port in place and used a 90* elbow to attach the pcv valve hose to clear the fpr. I don’t think I have a pic of it.

Make sure banjo hole is “down”. Same thing happened to me.
Also, bleeding is tricky. Use every trick you read online.

One is in the work shop in Augusta, close to being completed. We have hopes it will be completed in August sometime. It will be an 87gt 3800sc 5sp. Should be super-fun!
The 4 banger 84 went to my brother, who is a professional mechanic by trade and I’ve managed to get him hooked. His first observation of things he likes about working on the fiero is that the service books are real books. He doesn’t have to wait for pages to “load” lol!  (He’s young)

I try to not park in any way that makes leaving precarious. Sometimes, I forget to put my kickstand down though.

I'm very sorry, Pat. I have no words...

Raydar took the words right out of my mouth. I’m very sorry to hear this and wish you and your family the strength to heal.

It’s up under the dash isn’t it?  I don’t think the swelling will matter, as long as the speaker gasket can still seal and cracks aren’t forming.
