General Fiero Discussion / Happy Palindrome Day!
« on: February 02, 2020, 12:37:38 pm »
Binary Day is a thing of the past, but now we have Palindrome Day.

To celebrate, I'm driving my Fiero to get new lighting.  For some reason, some of the LEDs are dim.

Also, a local newspaper will be taking pictures of cars parked at a particular lot, so I'll drop in there.

What are you doing with your Fiero?

General Fiero Discussion / Keeping it, still?

If you had purchased a Fiero new, would you still have that same Fiero?  Why or why not?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Alternator only good after installed?
« on: January 28, 2020, 08:59:25 pm »
I purchased an alternator for testing.  So, I took it from parts store A straight to parts store B.  Now, this alternator has a full warranty.  Store B refused to test.  So, I took it to store C.  They tested the alternator, which failed.  Interesting.  So, I took it to a different location of store A.  They tested the altetnator, and it failed.  I produced my receipt, and asked for an exchange.  They told me that I had to go to the location where I had made the purchase.  I did.  They were expecting me, refused to test the alternator, and told me that I had to install it and run it, before it could be tested.  WHAT???!

I asked to speak with the manager.  He had a different story.  He accused me of swapping the alternator.  He rrfused to exchange or refund.  I had my receipt, and it is the purchased alternator.  I disputed the charge.  I refuse to be ripped off.

I have never heard of this install before test thing, previously.  Anyone else?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Seal or bearing?
« on: January 27, 2020, 08:10:32 am »
Where the harmonic balancer goes through the timing cover, there is a seal.  This means that the harmonic balancer turns against that seal, eventually wearing a groove in the balancer, and wearing the seal out.  Why wasn't there a sealed bearing used, in place of the seal?

General Fiero Discussion / Fiero Fiberglass
« on: January 26, 2020, 03:47:07 pm »
Well, while doing my routine checks, I saw that the domain is now gone.   :(

I guess there wasn't a buyer.  It's been 6 years or so since I last spoke with Jimmy, and have since lost his number.  If anyone has info, I'd be interested in knowing if the products were picked up by another vendor.

General Fiero Discussion / Weak cradle?
« on: January 25, 2020, 05:20:26 pm »
The top rail in the picture is situated towards the front of the car, when installed. The rusty spot on the top left is where the trans mount is bolted.
There are two sets of holes, situated a few inches apart. This allows some flexibility in where the trans is mounted. (I have no idea regarding which trans "likes" which set of holes.) This area is where the damage usually occurs.
The pieces that are being sold on Pennocks are designed to fit inside the rail, from underneath.

For people who don't get this (me), is the weak spot at the green dot, or the red dot, in the image below?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Torque wrench
« on: January 24, 2020, 07:15:22 pm »
I picked up a loaner torque wrench.  The wrench has a handle, and 3 separate rotating pieces.  There are numbers marked, but no units.  One of the numbers goes from 100 to 600.  The next one goes from 50-80.  The final one is from 10 to 50.  This makes no sense to me.  It seems that the lowest value is 160 something.  Surely no one torques anything to 600 lb/ft with a half-inch shaft.  I'm trying to find 22 lb/ft.

Where are the wrenches that had a bar and a needle?

General Fiero Discussion / Winter work
« on: January 24, 2020, 06:32:19 pm »
Of the 4 seasons, do you get as much done during the Winter as in any of the other 3 seasons?

My Fiero has been somewhat neglected, recently.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Sortof flat pads in front
« on: January 20, 2020, 10:11:34 pm »
There are some foam pads near the cowl.  I've been looking for these, but had no luck finding them.  Maybe the hood or sunroof rest on them.  Anyone know what these are?

Club News / Fiero goals
« on: January 16, 2020, 05:55:18 pm »
My goals may seem less than stellar, but I'm slowly ticking them off.  This may seem an odd board for this thread, but it isn't as odd as it may seem.  Some of my goals are directly related to GFC.  At this beginning of the new year, here are some goals:

A place to discuss Fieros.  Check.  Increase participation.  Check.

After starting the newsletter, the goal was to get certain info out, and to learn certain things.  About half of the info has been published, either in the GFC newsletter, or in other newsletters.  The newsletter articles have certainly been informative.  Hmmm.

Attend Fiero anniversary event.  Attend Tyler Shipman Show.  Attend Fierorama.  Check, check, check.

Meet Paul M.  Also check.

Meet Hulki.  Missed.

Meet Paul S.  Check.

See Paul H.'s race Fiero.  Check.

See Fiero Factory.  Check.

Brick from Fiero plant.  Check.

Attend GFC meeting.  Check.

Drive a Fiero on Indy track.  Check.

Complete Fiero swap.  Well...

Cruise with Aerodon Fiero...

See Pace car 3.  Check.

See the PPG Fieros.  4 of 6.

See '89/'90 Fiero.

Drive Huffaker Fiero.  Check.

Drive Fiero to Fiero Store.

Drive BRP in the Fall in my Fiero.

Attend Fiero meetings with 7 Fiero clubs in 1 year.  Almost check.  This turned out to be geographically unrealistic.

Fiero at Alamo.  Check.

Local Fiero meet-up.  Check.

Drive my Fiero through the Rockies.

Make a RFTH.

Make Daytona.

Cruise the coast (California) with Jay Leno.

Drive Ford GT replica Fiero.

Own 5 Fieros at once.  Check.

Have my Fiero shown at a museum.  Check.  Check.  Check.

Participate in Niagra Falls Fiero event.

As I complete the items on the list, I move on.  What are your goals?
