Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Dog bones
« on: December 26, 2019, 08:08:46 am »
Montegut,

The dog bones were different lengths.  If your mounts are all good, you can use a shorter dog bone.  See the November newsletter, where the shorter dog bones and the slotted dog bones were covered.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Push button start pros/cons

I've been driving a push-start vehicle, off and on.  Anyone have any comments on driving a Fiero with push-button start?

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Timing cover woes
« on: December 20, 2019, 08:57:30 pm »
Apparently, there are 2 timing covers for the V6.  I'm trying to understand how the gaskets fit, and what the differences are between the timing covers.

There is a round blue gasket, the water pump gasket, a V gasket, and 2 brown rings of different sizes.

A pickup truck was pulling a 53' trailer.  Not sure how the hitch hardware liked that.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Bracket on timing cover?
« on: December 15, 2019, 04:46:15 pm »
F85gtron, since your Fiero was not originally equipped with AC, I'm curious if your timing cover had a bracket bolted to it, or not.  This would be the bracket on the top right.

The Market / '88 cradle brace?
« on: December 14, 2019, 09:35:23 pm »

Since I'm sure my cradle isn't braced, is this something we can make, for less than $50 per set?

Does the cradle need to be pulled, to do this?

General Fiero Discussion / Someone has a sense of humor
« on: December 11, 2019, 09:36:26 pm »
When I got home, there was an unfamiliar Fiero parked in front of my house.  It was a bumperpad.  It's for sale.  The guy said it's an '84, with the factory V8.  He opened the decklid, and behold--NO ENGINE!  Interesting.  So, I checked the front compartment, which looked fairly normal.  About then, he said he had to go, and he drove off...in that Fiero.

There is a motor in there, somewhere.  It was dark, but whatever motor was in there was not near the decklid.  I could hear a motor.  Whatever it was was certainly not factory, and likely not a V8.  What did I miss?

General Discussion / Tesla autopilot wreck

When a tesla on autopilot wrecks, who gets blamed?  The driver, of course!

At least there were no fatalities, this time.

I haven't heard from handymanpat or blakeinspace for a while.  Anyone know if they're still around?  I realize they're in Texas, and don't post here.

Tech Tips, Tech Questions / Fan switch probe?
« on: December 06, 2019, 10:40:24 pm »
I've been comparing my stock fan switch with the replacement.  Note that my current setup does not use a fan switch, but I have replacements for all sensors.

Anyway, the probe on the stock sensor has a much larger diameter, and is made of a different material than the replacement unit.  I have not had much luck testing switches, but it would seem that this would matter.
