General Fiero Discussion / Digital EGR cover
« on: January 02, 2017, 12:57:27 pm »
I've seen a digital EGR cover in the diagrams, but haven't found one online.  Anyone have a link to a dress-up cover for a digital EGR?

I'm also interested in an aluminum cover for the radiator cap.  A guy on ebay used to sell the radiator cap cover, but only with a NAPA cap.

General Fiero Discussion / No BRAKES!
« on: October 19, 2016, 06:16:47 pm »
I was on the highway, driving along in the left lane, minding my own business.  Speed limit is 75MPH, so moving along.  I passed some slowpoke Jeep that was in my lane, doing about 50MPH.  Traffic was heavy, so I stepped on it a bit getting around the Jeep (didn't want to hold the guy in the the lane to the right up), then hit the brakes when I cut back left, so I didn't run into the guy ahead of me.  All I got was a woosh!  The brake pedal went to the floor, and I may as well have tried stopping with my breath.

I downshifted (engine braking is illegal there, but better than an accident, I suppose), and worked my way to the right lane.  It was another 10 miles to my exit, so hazards and minimum speeds it was.  Since the area wasn't familiar to me, I worried about getting stopped for the exit.  I managed to get through the exit, to a parking lot without incident.

This is the second booster that has done this to me.  It was explained to me that one of the diaphragms fails.  Doesn't help me stop any better.

If this happens to you, put the transmission in neutral when stepping on the brake.  Stepping on the brake effectively creates a vacuum leak, which causes the engine to rev, which is counter-productive to stopping.  The e-brake isn't much help.

Some Fiero guys here may have figured out my inconsistent braking problem: the calipers are frozen, or some such thing.  Basically, when cold, the brakes are almost through the floor to get any braking, but when warm, the slightest touch will about put you through the windshield.

General Fiero Discussion / It never fails...except when it does
« on: October 11, 2016, 10:40:54 pm »
My volts were reading around 10, no start, no click, no headlights.  After a jump, ran fine for hours.  Tested battery and alternator OK. Battery light worked in test.  Started fine the next few days.  Everything seemed tight.

Finally found that the bolt to the negative terminal was tight to the cable, but broken between the cable and the battery.  Removed and replaced bolts, all good.

General Fiero Discussion / How far can you go?
« on: September 26, 2016, 08:08:55 am »
Not 236 miles, apparently.  My trip for the tank showed 230 miles, and the gauge about 1/8 tank, when it occurred to me I'd never tested for accuracy, and usually fill up around 220-225 miles.  I figured I'd drive the last few miles home, and fill up later.  About 5 miles later, I felt it miss.  I coasted about 1/4 mile.  I walked the last mile home.  After adding a bit of gas, I drove it home.

Is anyone familiar with this product?

Perhaps I should clarify that this product is some sort of oil to increase horsepower, decrease heat, etc.

My second post here.  I've dealt with several of you, over the years, but didn't know about this forum.  I've had positive interactions with those people, so I'm giving this forum a try.
