General Discussion / Exorbitant Charges
« on: January 10, 2017, 10:06:37 pm »
From time to time, I see posts on PFF of people complaining about this vendor or that vendor and their exorbitant shipping charges.  Some of them seem to take their queue from some of the TV "But Wait!  We'll send you a free one, just pay shipping" ads where you get one can for $19 but shipping and handling for the second is $80.

Today, I ordered some small button cell batteries for my hearing aid.  The originals for the device were # 1154 and would last 2 or 3 weeks of continuous use.  I couldn't find them, so I've been using the equivalent, #357.  They only last  few days.  I went online and was looking for 1154's and found them listed along with my hearing aid.  They were available in an 8-pack from Amazon for about $0.50 per battery.  I ordered 2 cards with regular free shipping with estimated arrival between Jan. 23 and Jan. 30.  But if I want them to arrive before Jan. 23, shipping is $18 and change.  But the real kicker was that if I want them here in two days, the shipping cost was $35 and change.

Also, today, UPS delivered a package to Melanie.  Shipped from Grainger in Fountain Inn, SC.  The box is a 12 x 9 x 6.  The content was something for one of her medical devices.  It contained a blister card with 2 AAAA batteries.  Who knows how much it cost to ship that box and all the packing paper.

Because Melanie isn't often able to go shopping, she does a lot of online purchases.  Huge boxes with practically nothing in them are commonplace when coming from WalMart or Amazon.  Anyone else have similar experiences?

Club News / January 2017 meeting
« on: January 09, 2017, 10:34:26 pm »
Meeting is Saturday, January 14.  I think we will have a lot to talk about.  Board members and officers.  If the officers need to spend money on the Formula, board members need to approve or disapprove expenditures.

Andrew and I collected lots of valuable items when we first visited to see the Formula.  Some of those could be sold to raise money for the car and maybe some future charity work.  Paul has offered a suggestion for the car and that needs to be discussed.

All the officers will be there and I'd like to have all board members there so you all can elect your new director and make some financial decisions, if needed.  Scott and Roger, please try to make the meeting.  Other members and non-members, too.

Membership dues are due at this time.

Only a dusting out my way.  Sun's out and most everything's melted.  How's it in your area?

General Fiero Discussion / Discounts, Clearances, Bargains
« on: December 29, 2016, 07:55:10 pm »
A new feature that will endeavor to make Fiero owners aware of sales, specials and closeouts that may provide low cost Fiero parts.  A discount code will be provided when available.

Some of these vendors update weekly and others less often.  I will try to do the same.  To stay current on bargains, check back regularly.  The new post indicator won't show up in the margin when I modify the messages.

General Discussion / Robbie Finley in tornado area
« on: December 01, 2016, 10:22:54 am »
The tornado that hit Athens, Tn. was about a half mile from Robbie and Gail's house.  It may or may not have gotten closer but I've confirmed a business destroyed that's just down the street from him.  I can't get him on the phone.  Pray that he's ok. I'll update as I know more.

General Discussion / Fire in the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Area
« on: November 30, 2016, 12:14:11 am »
I spoke with Mike Barr Monday morning. Mike is a resident of Gatlinburg, living just above town underneath the skylift. Mike is a former Georgia Fieros member and the person who provided our Warrior Project car.  Those of you who did RFTH this year may have met him at Calhoun's BBQ as we awaited our seating.

He said he had to quickly evacuate last night and drove through a firestorm getting out of town. He didn't realize until this morning that he forgot to put on shoes. There is a 16 story hotel that's just up behind the Gatlinburg Convention center that was extensively damaged and had been vacated. That's only about 2 blocks from the Convention Center which is at the south end of downtown. The West Gate Resort, a community of probably 100 buildings on the north end of town near the Gatlinburg Welcome Center is almost totally wiped out. A firefighter friend of my daughter and son-in-law that works at one of the stations up in that area said they had to abandon their station and almost got trapped. He said the Ripley's Aquarium on the north end of downtown had to be abandoned because it was threatened.  f85gtron and I took a little tour of town on the trolley  after our RFTH dinner and rode up to a mountaintop resort.  That was the Park Vista Hilton 16 story hotel.

They reported top winds at 87 mph yesterday and there was only a smidgen of rain, with most of the storm system that brought rain to us, going more toward the Knoxville direction.

Nothing in the immediate downtown strip has suffered any damage so to speak of as of this morning.

Club Events / December Meeting and Christmas Party
« on: November 22, 2016, 01:21:44 pm »
The club Christmas Party is to be held on December 10 at The Galaxy Diner, 3320 Henderson Mill Road, Chamblee/(Atlanta).  It will be at the same time as our regular meeting time of 1:30.  All are invited, whether you are a paid member or not, or even if you've never attended a meeting.  Family and friends welcome to join us, too.

We celebrate in a manner often called White Elephant Christmas, Crazy Christmas and a number of other names.  This is our version:

We have set a price limit of $25.  That means it can be something you got out of the junk drawer, on up to the $25 limit.  It can be a useful gift or a gag gift.  Gift for male or female, adult or child.  You should wrap the gift, but no names should be on it.

1.  Numbers will be written or tickets provided for each gift.  So, if there are 25 gifts, we will have something with numbers ranging from 1 to 25.  Each person bringing a gift will be given the opportunity to draw a number from a container.

2.  Once all numbers are drawn, gift selection will begin with the person holding the Number 1 ticket.

3.  That person may select any wrapped gift.

4.  Then the person holding the Number 2 ticket has the opportunity to take an unopened gift, OR can give Person Number 1 their ticket, take their gift and Number 1 must select another unopened gift.

5.  This proceeds in numeric order, with each person having the opportunity to steal someone's gift or open a new one.  You cannot open a gift then swap it.  The only swap allowed is your ticket for a previously opened gift.

6.  A person can only have his/her gift stolen 2 times.  After that, they have immunity.  A person cannot go back and take a gift that has previously been stolen from them.

7.  When all gifts have been opened, the person who originally held the Number 1 ticket has the ability to swap for any other person's gift including their original gift if desired because having been the first to select, had no one to steal from.

Do not be afraid to bring a gag or inexpensive gift.  Do not be afraid to take someone else's gift.  That's what makes this so much fun.  Of course, afterward, if you want to swap gifts with someone, you may do so (if they agree).

We also ask that each person bring a new unwrapped gift for our Toys For Tots donation.  Normally Pat and Linda collect those to be delivered to the Marines Collection Point.

Club News / A New Formula In Our Stall
« on: October 29, 2016, 05:23:35 pm »
Reference the passing of Lee Charles for some background.

His Daughter, Leslie Charles, has notified us that Lee wanted us to have his Formula when he passed.  He asks that it be raffled or auctioned and the money go to the club treasury.  Leslie has sent some pictures of the car.  It's been sitting for at least 4 years, apparently in the back yard.  It's very dirty on the outside, but it appears the tires are still inflated.  It will need a very thorough scrubbing or two.  She says that the car was running at the time Lee parked it, so only the usual wake-up things need to be done, like getting all the critter nests out of the hidden places, draining the fuel tank, replacing oil and filter, new battery and a few other things.

I have a contact name and number where we can go see the car, in the Ellijay or East Ellijay area.  I would like someone to go with me to evaluate what we need to do to retrieve the car.  It's an automatic, so it will need to be hauled, or pulled very slowly in order to get it to Pat's house.  He has agreed to take it in.

We can view the car any days except Monday, but need to make an appointment with our local contact.  Leslie will be up from Florida during Thanksgiving week, but we need to be prepared to move it before or no later than that week.

Anyone want to go with me?

The Market / FOR SALE: Kris Munson Flushmount Headlight System
« on: October 27, 2016, 08:52:15 am »
Complete flushmount system, includes the buckets, lenses, mounting brackets with lights and halogen bulbs and a complete wiring harness.  Well almost complete.  It's missing one of the front parking light/turn signal sockets.  Kris Munson originally sold the system, minus harness, headlight lenses and bulbs for $200.  The headlight lens was $25 each at the time, and I assume you still had to buy the H4 bulbs.  I understand that the main headlight harness isn't needed, but I'll throw that in, too.

Just remove your old system headlights and doors and install the flushmount system.  Fits all Fieros.

$150 plus shipping if it needs to be shipped to you.

Paypal, cash, or personal check or money order if I know you.

Expert Tech Advice / OEM Wheel Fitment and Interchange Website
« on: October 20, 2016, 10:09:12 am »
This website link has been hidden in some of my files for quite some time.  While helping someone on PFF, suddenly it came to light.  The question frequently comes up as to what wheels will fit my Fiero.  What tires can I put on my Fiero.  What wheel/tire combo can I put on my Fiero.  This website can probably answer most of those questions.  Some of the wheels specifications are missing some info, but most show the lug nut size, center bore, offset (ET) and more.  The website is frequently updated and includes some vehicles you may never have heard of.  Not only for the Fiero, but useful for the Soccer Mom van and the weekend 4 x 4 High Boy Mud Bogger.

This page is the result of a search for 5 x 100 wheels.

The Home Page includes apps for your mobile device, too.

Club News / RIP: Former Georgia Fieros Member Leon (Lee) Charles
« on: October 05, 2016, 09:00:24 am »
We received this from Le's Daughter, Leslie.  Lee had been a regular participant with the club events, back in the early part of the 2000's.  Long-time members will probably remember the wide-brimmed hat and the wonderful selection of Ellijay apples he distribute at our gatherings.

General Fiero Discussion / Fiero Owner Locator Map
« on: August 11, 2016, 10:55:23 am »
This map shows the location of Fiero owners around the world.  At least those that have registered with the site.  Looks like I have registered, but I don't remember when or my username and password.  Someone got me on there in two different locations.

Register and place your marker on the map.  Might be good if we had this link on our website side bar or stickied in one of the message board topics.
