The tree came down...
« on: July 24, 2012, 05:26:21 pm »
We used to have a majestic maple tree in our front yard. Here's a picture from a few years ago (when I first got the yellow Fiero) that shows the tree.

The recent storms damaged the tree. Here's a picture showing some of the damage.

We had an arborist come out, who said the tree needed to come down, or it could fall on the house. So we had them take it down.

Bye, tree. We'll miss you. :(
(And you couldn't pay me enough to do that job.

Edit: Another picture -- the aftermath.

Maples are often selected for their shading ability and their beautiful colors.  The fault they have is that they are a multi-trunk tree instead of having limbs coming from a central trunk.  Where each trunk separates is a weak area and given time, you will encounter the problems you've had.  They're very much like the Bradford Pear tree for it's ability to drop a section on a house or car without notice.  Was that Joel up there?

A River Birch tree would go well in that area, but maybe just a little closer to the street.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Do you have to dig up the roots?

The stump was ground up. There's just a pile of wood chips and dirt there now.
