Alternator Question: 88 Duke vs. 88 V6
« on: April 09, 2019, 01:44:45 am »
Is the alternator from an 88 V6 useable in an 88 Duke?
I can get Remy Delco alternators for the 1988 V6 here in Germany rather easy.

Thnx,

I did a parts search on AutoZone for an 88 V6 and an 88 L4.  Search results showed different part numbers for the alternators.

If you're thinking of replacing the alternator, be sure to compare the pulleys.  Count the number of ribs on the pulleys before you hand off your core.  I've encountered pulleys with 1 less rib on a number of occasions involving GM cars, including a Fiero.  Someone also recently said their pulley had an extra rib so the pulley was wider.  Probably not as bad as one that's too narrow.  It will shred a new belt in short order.

Some great info on the Fierosails website D.  It's under interchangeable parts/alternator

The alternators are similar, but the mounting lugs are clocked differently. I believe the V6 lugs are 180 degrees apart. The 4 cylinder lugs are ~120 degrees.
I believe I swapped the pulley and front case half, and used a 4 cylinder alternator on a V6.

Thanks to PK (thanks for the link), I found out that the 85 Amp and 100 Amp alternators are actually unique for the Duke. That means either rebuild or get one from a donor car.  :-[ \D
