A couple of small problems
« on: March 07, 2022, 02:29:07 am »
I got the Little Black Car out of the shed today.  It was the first time out in over 4 months.  It started right up and ran beautifully while on the run.  The only problems where with the radio and the door locks.  Everything on the radio works except it doesn't speak and a radio is no good if it does not make music.  What could be wrong?
The other problem is the door locks are stiff to open from outside with the key.  I am afraid the key will bend.  How do I free the lock assembly to make it turn easier.
I gave it a quick bath before hitting the road and it still looks pretty good.

Power door locks?  Hit them with PB Blaster.  Then install Keyless Entry.  Try some PB Blaster on your key, too.

Radio?  Check fuses would be my first thought.  Hard to believe ALL the speakers would be out unless a break occurred at the radio.  In that case, take the radio out and check.

Red '88 GT 5-Speed, 7730ECM, 1.6 Rockers, and KEYLESS Entry!
Now with a trailer hitch for my bike rack.

The lock stiffness is most likely not in the lock cylinder, but in the door latch mechanism. If you have power locks, the linkage to the lock motor could also be stiff. Try the manual locking lever on the inside of the door. Is that also stiff?
You can try spraying the latch mechanism with a generous amount of silicone spray lubricant. If that doesn't help, you'll have to remove the inner door skin and spray all of the linkage involved in locking the door.

It has manual door locks but I will try silicone spray grease.
The radio lights up when I turn it on.  I was able to set the clock, switch from AM to FM but no crackle or any kind of  noise, even with the volume all the way up.  Is there a separate fuse for the speakers.  It is the original stock radio.

Check your RADIO fuse and your BAT fuse.  I think one provides power for the clock and display and the other is for the radio, itself.

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Try playing with the "Fade" control of the radio to see if either the front or rear speakers are bad.

I will check the fuses tomorrow if the rain stops.
I have moved the fader switches in both directions and it made no difference.
