Yes, definitely a scam. Phone calls and emails telling you that you have money coming to you from Western Union, Lotteries, and all sorts of things that you have never entered are just ways of getting money from you. I get regular calls and emails trying to sell something, telling me I've won something, offering me a percentage of millions of US dollar if I'll give them my bank account info so they can transfer money out of their country, or I have an inheritance from a relative in some country that even my ancestors never heard of.
Never, never, never, and by the way did I say NEVER, give out your checking, credit card or personal information to anyone who calls you or sends you an email. If you want to do business with them, look up the company phone number or email through their website and contact them. You should be the one making the contact, not them.
There are so many ways to find out what you're doing that allow these people to target you. I know you've been looking for other employment, both in AU and the US. If you're posting to message boards in your job search, scammers can get your information there then they start making offers to you.
