Fastback something?
« on: September 23, 2019, 09:25:57 pm »
Not mine.

https://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/for/d/pontiac-1987-pontiac-fiero/6981058926.html

It isn't a quad, because it has a V6, with only 2 valves per cylinder.

It isn't a formula, because it is an '87.

It isn't a notchback, because it has fastback quarter windows.

It has a 4-speed Muncie, so...no idea.

Got me.

It was probably an 87 Coupe originally, else the panels with aero trim would all have needed to be swapped out.  Dropping in the 2.8 into a Duke body is a pretty easy task, as well as the Pisa rear clip.  All else on the exterior would remain the same.  I see the interior has been upgraded to the 86 and later V6 gauge set.  The high ratio transmission would have been an 84 4:10 swapped into it.  Those are my guesses.

Is the PISA part the whole rear clip that uses Notchie lights? Or 1/4 windows and extensions that fiberglass in? I like the fastback with those lights.....Something different

I like the original fastbacks much better.  They use those tail lights, but have a lip above them.

Wasn't that a PPG version of the fastback?  I don't think it came from Pontiac, but yes, it looked good.

Which originals? Pontiac or aftermarket

The red PPG:

The blue PPG:

This car has PISA's fastback conversion.
As mentioned, it's most likely based on an 87 coupe with a 2.8 swapped in. (That would be the easiest way to do it.)

It's kind of... "meh" on the face of it, but it definitely is a piece of Fiero history.
To a collector, it's probably worth the asking price (if there's nothing glaringly wrong with the car, itself.)
Otherwise? Kind of a one-off. Seems like replacement parts would likely be nearly impossible to source.

On second thought...
This has been out there for a while. If it was worth anything as a collector, Fred Bartemayer(sp?) probably would have jumped on it already.

Fred seems to collect factory originals.  This is a copy.  Fred has an original.
