Meeting draw
« on: February 02, 2020, 12:57:22 pm »
Not exaclty a club event, but after being asked by 2 different clubs to attend meetings, this seemed relevant.

Having an agenda is always good, but I looked over the sgenda for each meeting.  Honestly, neither agenda inspired me to make room in my schedule, or the effort to attend.  Having attended meetings for those clubs in the past, I know the format.  In each instance, I had attended specifically because I was interested in the agenda items.  I discovered that other attendees also attended specifically for the agenda items.

I'm wondering if the agenda has any impact on GFC club meetings.

Interesting.  Something must draw people.  As far as I know, no one is externally forced to attend.

I'm sure it does have some bearing but whether it's positive or negative, I have no clue.

Those that are truly interested in the club and want to have input attend.  Those who aren't may feel that what the heck, I can read about it on the forum.

Based on my conversations with you, I miss a lot by not attending meetings.  The argument could be made that I spend more time on this forum than the average member.  Certainly, I have read every post.

This Saturday, I believe I stand to miss BBQ.  I am fairly certain that BBQ was invented with me in mind.  For a while, all the local BBQ places used to know me by name.  If there is a way to get BBQ from this forum, I haven't found it.

I love BBQ, too.  I've had some great stuff while covering Georgia and Alabama and I've had some that made me want to swear off the stuff.

Last weekend I took my Son In Law, Daughter and Granddaughter to a new restaurant about 6 miles away.   I won't return.  Today I took my Sister to one about 15 miles away.  I would even consider going back tomorrow if I weren't busy.  I don't care for the chain restaurant stuff like you get at Applebees or the like.  Most of that comes from a can, however there is one local chain called Sonny's that actually smokes their own meat.  I like the little small independent restaurants.

The V8 club always has a meeting agenda, its in the by-laws.  Its pretty formulaic, officers reports, reading of Board meeting minutes ect.  We do have a "program" every time.  Either a video presentation (we have a screen and digital projector) or club member doing something.  Last one was about vintage postcards (not car related but at this point after 60 years of the club we have beat flatheads to death) and next is on hand tool restoration.  I did one on my work and im trying to get an architect member to do one on his.   Videos are 15-20 min and have included historic films on d-day and this cool one https://youtu.be/S9tkNBOnJ_w

I like organization and purpose.  It's sometimes difficult to find points of interest.
