Water leak
« on: November 20, 2012, 04:41:27 pm »
Here comes the short version of having a water leak some where around the house.
All in all 4 plumbers came, 3 of them suspected the leak under my front porch where the main valve sits.
The first one wanted to open the front porch (he was 95% sure the leak was there), would have charged me max. 600$ but wouldn't have put back together the porch.
The second plumber also suspected the leak  under the porch. He wanted 1000$. When I ask him about the price he said that he would fix the leak AND put the porch back together. Now we are talking opening the porch 3x3 feet. I figured I could build me 2 more porches for "$400" extra.
The third plumber took the lattice off, took a look under the porch and found it bone dry. He wanted to email me an estimate for putting pressure into the pipe to make sure I had a leak and then go from there. I did not receive an email, asked him about it and I was told he couldn't help me.
NOW the 4th plumber & Don decided screw the leak and just put in a new water line from the meter along the house into the basement.
He came Friday, started around 11 am and was done around 4 - 4:30. Accidentally he cut through the Comcast cable but I can live without phone, TV and internet but I need water!
cable. Comcast came Sunday - live is good again ;)

I don't know when your home was built, but many homes from the 80's and on up into the early 2000's had blue polybutylene pipe.  It was part of a major recall and for a while if the house was less than 10 years old, you could get it replaced for free.  Building codes eventually banned it.

I used to have to go to the well, ~75 yards away, and bring back water 2.5 gallons at a time. Didn't need no stinkin' pipe.
You can't fix stupid but, you can adjust it with a 2x4.

I had to walk 10 miles to school, through 12 feet of snow, all 13 months of Winter, and it was up-hill in BOTH directions!

Nope. No snow where I lived. Maybe a dusting once in a great while.
But I did have to swim through 3 miles of snake infested swamp to get to school.

Polar Bears are great with mashed potatoes and gravy, a side of asparagus and cheese and good old home-made biscuits.

Donster, when did you get out of the trees?  :o

Haven't you ever noticed he occasionally walks slightly humped over?  Always blames it on a bad back, though.

That's probably from carrying so many Fiero parts from his garage to the Fiero Parts Crypt/Sanctuary and back.

Actually, I walk bent over because it's from carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders! ;D
