Slave Cyl
« on: December 30, 2008, 02:39:31 pm »
What is the length of the rod on a 86 GT with 4 Speed?, I found an old engine pushrod cut down being used and want to fix this problem!
I tried to order a new Slave cyl at NAPA (NNC37795) with the proper 13/16 piston thinking it came with a new rod   No luck!
Any ideas?

Robbie, what did you do with that 4-speed slave that came off mine when we did the Isuzu swap?  If it's the same as an Isuzu or Getrag, I have a spare.  I'm thinking they are the same because we had just put a new 4-speed slave on the car when the tranny went south, and I don't remember changing it.

Anyway, I have an old Isuzu slave with a pushrod.

I'm pretty sure all the push rods are the same but I'll check tomorrow and let you know for sure.

4-speed and Isuzu are longer than Getrag.

I sure appreciate Your help Guy's! Crossing My finger's that the Slave cyl(already have the 13/16 MR2 piston to replace the Fiero one)
isn't going to be a problem! Then pull the fuel tank and replace the fuel pump and sock/filter. Should be on the road soon!!

Before you go to the trouble of pulling the fuel tank, try swapping the relays for the fuel pump and A/C.  They're located on the firewall behind the air filter.  They're identical, and it's a good test before going through a fuel pump change and find that the pump still doesn't run.

The slave rod I have is 5.566 inches long.

Ratfink,

Slave rod is 5 1/2" to 5 5/8"  (sorry - no metric measurind sticks in my shop)- The old one I have is a little worn and a little shorter than the new one that came with the ne slave. New here so I don't know if I can post pics or not.

Happy New Year!

Measured the modified engine push rod used in My Fiero 6 5/8 long! May have to modify it to 5 5/8 unless the slave cyl I'm getting from NAPA has a rod included!

I can send you the one I have if you don't get one with your new slave.  Also, check the banjo rod on the master to make sure the curl is turned upward.  It could be that they installed it upside down and tried to compensate with the make-shift slave rod.

Good new's! the new slave cyl came with the correct rod,so I'm all set!
Already changed the piston to the MR2 setup and hope to get it installed tomorrow!
Then it's on to the Fuel pump!
