Not much progress on the rescue car. Been busy with life.
Pgackerman and I have collected almost all the parts needed to get this puppy in the road.....Just need time. I attempted to drop the cradle because I don't like the wiring the previous owner installed but immediately ran into a problem with the cradle bolts.....specifically the ones in the back that you have to cut a relief window in the metal to get out. Figures.

Can you remove the rear bumper bar, and jam a BF screwdriver in beside the nuts to stop them from turning? Might be able to spray some penetrating oil on them, too.

Rear bumpers off. I'll try the BF screwdriver idea. Willing to try anything simple before cutting!  Online, the consensus is that cutting doesn't hurt anything, but sounds like a lot of trouble. However, it may prove to be a dirtier, quicker solution too?

We worked on the Rescue car today.
  • Interior is mostly back together.
  • Passenger side rear rotor and caliper replaced
Red '88 GT 5-Speed, 7730ECM, 1.6 Rockers, and KEYLESS Entry!
Now with a trailer hitch for my bike rack.

I REALLY like the interior on this car. The darker colors really simplify and clean things up allot!  After working on this car, then getting into my 85, my car feels too "busy" with all the contrasting shades of gray and blue (used to be charcoal gray....i think).

It didn't. I removed the bumper, which provided a clear view of the offending stud thingy that's spinning, but not enough room from the back to get a set of vise grips on it. Looks like cutting a relief for entry will be the only option.
Good news is, the car has no rust on the trunk and rails. Good sign.

Cradle removal update!
Pgackerman came over today and he was able to get a set of vise grips on the captive nut in the frame, accessing it from the bumper side, thanks to his unnaturally long skinny arms!  Awesome!  Thanks Paul!  Did not have to cut the frame.
We didn't have time to properly drop the cradle. That will have to wait for another day.
Paul Did get the interior mostly back together and it looks great with sunfire seats. They are VERY comfortable too!  The styling goes well with the fastback look, but my opinion is that they wouldn't look right in a notchie.

Spoiler alert! (My but crack makes a cameo appearance in one of the shots!)
It feels really good to get the cradle dropped. It will be MUCH easier to get the wiring right. Looks like that's really the only issue....other than the cross coolant tube. Some of the ac wiring looked iffy too.  Shouldn't be too long now. I'm getting excited!  How bout you, Paul?
