This years Charity Donation
« on: December 03, 2016, 07:26:07 am »
I was thinking while going home yesterday and a brain fart....... err, storm. Im not sure if the club has made its annual donation yet, if it hasn't I believe we should do something for the folks in Gatlinburg. Perhaps a clothing drive? If we do that I will gladly load up the Expedition and take it there. Any other thoughts on this?

Works for me. Thanks for the offer.
I'm certain that we (Tammy and I) can come up with a bunch...

I think this would be a good idea. Since the only expense to the club would be delivering the clothes, (gas for someone to drive them up there), I think we should do it. But since there's less than a week to the Christmas party, would it be a good idea to have folks bring donated clothes to the party? Let me know what you think.

Contact needs to be made with someone up there, maybe in the Police or Fire Departments or Chamber of Commerce.  A delivery point needs to be determined.  If we can wait until the 17th to deliver, I can help deliver and also it would give me time to approach my church to see if they may have anything.  I'm sure clothing for all ages is needed, as well as warm bedding.

Others of you might also check with churches you're affiliated with.

Can someone make contact with some one up there? I have too much going on at work to do it.

The club doesnt have to worry about gas, i will take care of that.

I agree with Pat that the collection should happen this weekend since we are all going to be gathered together anyway.

Thanks, Scott

On the news, this afternoon, I saw that Dolly Parton is doing a national telethon on the 13th to raise money for the victims.

I'm all for it.  I believe the club should at least support the fuel costs for this endeavor. I'll be bringing clothes and other items to the meeting/party.

This doesn't seem to be going anywhere so I took the liberty of getting some information about donations and collection points.  Here's what I found:

Donate Items

Thank you for your interest in donating items to help the residents of Sevier County who were affected by the recent wildfires.
SHOULD I DONATE?

Yes! We are still accepting donations of items for the families who were affected. Take a look below to find out what our current needs are and which items we’re not currently accepting.
Items We Currently Need

We need donations of:

    Winter coats - children sizes
    New children’s clothes
    New children's gloves and hats
    Winter coats of all sizes
    Warm gloves for all ages
    New children’s tennis shoes
    Non-perishable food items
    Laundry detergent
    Personal hygiene items
    School supplies
    Men’s boots
    Shovels and rakes
    Water hoses
    Work gloves
    Mops and brooms
    Can openers

Items We Are NOT Currently Accepting

Items we have enough of and we are not currently accepting:

    Any used clothing
    Bottled water

Where do I make a donation?
You can make small donations (small pick-up trucks or less) at the Smoky Mountain Jubilee center
Currently not accepting donations - Boyd’s Bear Donation Center

149 Cates Road
Pigeon Forge, TN 37863
Smoky Mountain Jubilee Donation Center

2115 Parkway
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee 37863
Hours:
Monday through Sunday
8am – 7pm

Donations delivered by box truck or semi-truck need to be delivered on pallets if possible and will expedite the unload process. Large donations are considered any donations larger than single or even multiple pick up trucks. These donations will have to be delivered to one of our warehouses for staging.

*You must schedule a large delivery by calling (865) 360-4268 or (865) 924-1786.

Small donations of needed items can be taken to the Smoky Mountain Jubilee donation center.

Thank you for checking to that Charlie. It was just a thought on my end. Perhaps we can make a monetary donation. I will let everyone make that decision tomorrow.
