7170 vs 7730 ECU
« on: May 01, 2017, 10:25:03 pm »
The 7170 ECU connects at the ALDL using WinALDL, using an OBD1 cable.  Codes on the ECU can be read by reading the blink codes.

The 7730 ECU?  Connects at the ALDL with Tuner Pro?

Does the 7730 ECU do blink codes?

So the only real difference in this regard is the software.

How about at the shop, if they try to read the codes with an OBD1 scanner?  Any change there?

Are the blink codes the same?  New meanings?  Additions/subtractions?

Though OBD2 didn't appear until 97, they changed the ALDL after 93 to something like a 12 or 16 pin feed.  After 93, any 7730 won't blinkety-blink the blankety-blank codes.  A true scanner is needed.

BTW, did you know BMW and a host of other vehicles used the GM 7730?
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

I knew that the 7730 was widely used, but didn't know it was used in the BMWs.

Mine is from an '87 Celebrity.
