Wedding anniversaries
« on: June 04, 2017, 07:57:36 am »
I have 2 coming up.  It's always a question, how to celebrate.  This year, I'm drawing a blank. I had 2 possibilities, but both fell through, for one reason or another.

Explain.  What were the plans?
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Well, one plan was to go for a scenic drive in the Fiero.  Since the transmission is out, so is that idea.  Another plan was to eat dinner at the boathouse, but that was also nixed.  I tried to rent a mansion on Lindell, but that fell through.

The eldest ”daughter” is watching the kids for a few hours.

We've done the trolley, the riverboat, the Chase Plaza Hotel, the restaurants in the Loop and Old Town, and tours of a bunch of the historic towns around here.  We went canoeing, and later on a paddle boat.  We toured the homes in Whitmoor, and some nice houses in Camelot Estates.  We went for a carriage ride.  We had the cultural performers (complete with gongs, bamboo dance and blow-darts).  We went to a tropical beach and played in the water.  We danced (I'm being generous) at Casaloma Ballroom.

The dance was fun.  As we pulled into the parking lot, the attendant handed me an envelope of rattle-snake eggs.  My wife had never seen snake eggs, so I let her look in the envelope.

I tried to get us on the ”sink-a-ship” competition, where you fire cannons at a boat in a small river, but apparently that's too dangerous.  The cannon-balls are about 4 inches in diameter, and there is constant supervision.  They clean and load, and you get to aim and fire.  But deafness probably follows.

Mud wrestling is probably out.

No polygamy.  I just married her several times.

My wife was 20 when I met her.  I mean, the woman who became my wife.  We dated for 5 or so years, then got married.

True, but not usually a person's first thought.

Hey, Harry!  Haven't seen a post from you for years.  Glad you're still hanging out here.

So, rattlesnake eggs are out.

BBQ  dinner in a rowboat is out, because of my rotator cuff.  I can't row.

A few years ago, we went to the opening of a bar on top of a hotel.  Not our thing, but it's like $300 to get in the door, now.

The Art Foundry sucks.

Staying in country, this time, but we did the panoramic restaurant on top of the tower at Niagara Falls.

Not really into Branson.

It occurs to me that I go through these things 3 times faster than other people.

When are the anniversaries?

We also have two.  The first one is my treat.  The second one is hers.

At least I remember.

If it was up to me, I'd sleep in to celebrate.  Maybe until 8 or 9 o'clock.  Hmmm.  Maybe a B&B, but for another year.

One down...

We went for a short walk, then a trolley ride through a historic neighborhood.  The driver was supposed to be the tour guide, but it was her first day, and she didn't know much.  Since it was just us, I gave my wife the full tour.  I know most of the places & owners, and a bit of the history.  Then we had a late lunch at a restaurant of my wife's choice.  As usual, they got the order wrong.  Which reminds me.  Since when are whole garlic cloves in mashed potatoes?  Apparently, we didn't walk enough to work up much of an appetite.

Then we drove through the rest of the town for a more thorough tour, then out through the country.

The sun was a bit brutal.  My wife actually wanted to take the Fiero, but that was the only regret.
