Coming to Georgia...
« on: June 13, 2017, 07:12:29 pm »
A sister-in-law is making her first trip to the US tomorrow.  Warner Bros is putting her up at the Ritz in Atlanta, GA for a media event with Dwayne Johnson.

Coming from a tropical country, it was amusing that she was worried about a coat for the cold.  They have no sales tax there, and don't do tips.  I've advised her that her cell phone won't work, her cell charger won't work, and wifi at the Ritz probably isn't free.

How did she score that?

Be sure to tell her that she shouldn't go wandering around alone at night.  Even though it's the heart of downtown, there can still be problems.

2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Thanks for the tip.  I'll pass it along.

This is part of her job.  They send her all over.  She works for Cinema Online.

Many cell chargers are tolerant of any input voltage from 100-250 volts, 50 or 60Hz. All they need is a plug adapter. Read the fine print on the charger for the input voltage supported.
If her phone is unlocked, she can get a SIM card and one of the pay-as-you-go plans to use it here.

The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.

She is only here for two nights.  We told her to use the computers in the lobby.  Not really worth buying an adapter.  Heck, mine came with adapters, but I lost the adapters.

There should be USB ports in the airports, and often in the hotel rooms.  She can just plug her cable into the USB ports.  Except for high-end phones and some tablets, this should work.

Only free from her work obligations on Friday.  The Zoo & Aquarium are expensive.

My wife suggested Coco Cola World.  I suggested the Delta Flight Museum, Olympic Park, Underground Atlanta, and the federal reserve.  Wrong day for touring the governor's mansion, but could visit the state capitol.  Could maybe watch a movie in Central Park.

Of course, raining tonight.

Underground Atlanta, go with an escort.  Schools out and groups of kids hang out there.  It has been known for occasional gang activity.  Olympic Park is nice.  The Westin Plaza, the big round building has the Sundial Restaurant on top.  Sometimes referred to as the Flying Saucer Restaurant.  It rotates 360* once an hour, giving one a panoramic view of the city.

If she visits the Atlanta Aquarium, there's a great seafood restaurant on the corner near the main entrance.  Legal Seafood.  Melanie and I have made several 40 mile trips down there just for their fresh seafood.  They don't open until 11.

About 2 blocks away is Atlanta Cruisers.  The website says they give 2 hour tours of Atlanta sites in a chauffeured small electric car.

Tell her to take pictures so you can post them.

You're further North?

All that stuff is very near the Ritz.  Google Maps shows the relative location to the Ritz.  That's how I found the Atlanta Cruisers Electric Car and Segway Tours.

Melanie and I are Northeast of downtown Atlanta, just off the I-85 corridor.  Roger is a little further out and TopNotch is a little closer on this side of town.

I think she went to the mall.  All her pics, so far, look like this:
