If the valves in your engine are noisy, is it a bad thing?

It depends on the engine. Some are inherently noisy.
But noisy valves may point to problems, not bad adjustment. If they're still noisy after adjustment, try adding Rislone to your oil. Rislone is the one additive recommended by Smokey Yunick back in the day. Many additives are "snake oil", but Rislone is pretty good at cleaning stuck lifters.
I read somewhere that it is best to adjust the valves with the engine at operating temperature. It would be tough to do on a Fiero V6, though. It would cool somewhat by the time you got the valve covers off.

He says it's the roller rockers, but this is the second time adjusting the valves.  I'm not sure why it would need additional adjustments, but I'm no mechanic.

Aluminum or steel roller rockers? I've heard that aluminum rockers are only good for racing engines that are gone over after every race, and not good for daily drivers. I'm not sure if that's true, though.

Steel, AFAIK.  I didn't know they had aluminum roller rockers.

As long as the valve covers are going to be off, have them look at the inside of the cover to see if the rockers are hitting the covers.  I've heard of that happening on certain combinations of cam and rockers.

These are 1.52, with a 260 cam.
