That's pretty neat.  I used a piece of soft single strand aluminum wire about 1/16 diameter and pushed it through from the latch end.  Made a little loop in it and attached my wire and pulled it back through.

I ended up with a spare harness, that included the trunk release wire. I taped a "pull wire" to the old harness and pulled the harness out, pulling most of the pull wire into the lid. Then I taped the new harness to the pull wire, and pulled it back through.
Same result.
