My Fiero was hit at the shop.  Lady just backed into the driver's side of my parked Fiero.  She pulled forward, and ripped the bumper cover off her civic.  The event is on camera.

The lower rear quarter panel is damaged, and the door panel.

She offered me $700 to let it go.  I told her that that wouldn't cover the cost of the door, much less the quarter panel.  She didn't blink, but offered me $1,000.  My custom quarters are no longer made.  I told her that we'd call the police for a report, and it'd be $1,200.  She offered me $1,500, and no police.  I countered $1,200, with the police.  We called the police, and I had her get me cash from a nearby ATM.

Does there seem to be something off about her willingness to offer that much money?

Long history with the PD.  No valid license or insurance.  Many accidents and being at fault could mean cancellation or higher insurance rates.  Points on the license causing suspension.

I think I am covered, legally.  I reported the accident.  No report to either insurer.

Dunno if $1,200 will cover this, but probably more than insurance would have paid.

It's always best to report the accident.  Sometimes the other person may come back and bring charges against you for hit and run or for bodily injuries even when they were at fault.  Even if you were rear-ended, they might claim you backed into them.  I had a guy back into me in stop and go traffic when he laid the seat down to retrieve something from the back floor.  Then he took off down the shoulder of the roadway and escaped.  I called the PD.

The previous panels are back on my Fiero, so it looks better.  The shop swapped the panels at no charge to me, but I think I exhausted their good graces.
