Brake master cylinder
« on: October 04, 2019, 06:42:45 pm »
Today, I received an email from TFS.  Among other things, the email contained an image of a brake master cylinder.

Some years ago, there was a discussion on PFF about a slanted MC, much like the one pictured in the TFS email.  I checked the TFS web site, and the site shows the same thing.  Having just done an article loosely about such things, I went back and referred to the pictures.  From the pictures, all brake master cylinders are flat.

Did I miss something?

See for yourself:

I don't usually install a master cylinder in my screen.

bad picture..... but it looks right to me. The master cylinder does mount with an upward angle but the cap is level. If you look at the master on the car you can see that the reservoirs are different depths.

On my '88, the front is deeper, and the back is wider.  The vertical connectors coming up to the tanks are different lengths.

My understanding is that the difference between the master cylinders, is the bore size.

Is it slanted, or as in the newsletter pics?

They look identical, from the outside.  Only the bore is different.  Hence my observation on the TFS masfer cylinder.

hard to say without getting out the laser level, but in person it looks like there is a slight up angle towards the front of the car
