This is taken from the Atlanta Region SCCA web for Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in Braselton.  Track Events formerly know as Proffessional Driving Xperience, will be held on March 22, July 26 and November 8, 2020.  A Z rated helmet is required.  A standard motorcycle helmet isn't acceptable but helmets can usually be rented at the track for about $25.

The March event would be a good substitute for our defunct St. Patrick's Day Parade.

WHAT ARE TRACK EVENTS?
Many of us have seen the disclaimer at the bottom of TV ads which say, "professional driver, closed course" and imagined what it's like to drive on track. With SCCA's Track Night in America, you don’t have to imagine anymore.

Atlanta Region Track Events are events that provide an environment for drivers who simply want to increase the enjoyment of driving their vehicle. For most drivers all it takes to be a part is: a weekend membership, a safe street car, a valid drivers license, and an approved helmet. For those who are familiar with the Track Night in America program, Track Events are similar events run by the Atlanta Region.

The events are run at Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA during the quiet hours of our Road Race weekends. We have a drivers meeting around 9:00am and drivers get two 20-minute sessions starting at 10:00am (you'll be done by noon) all for around $100. These events are open to anyone - no special licenses required.

There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Is this like the PBR, a bunch or no one?

Will the club have any expenditures, if someone doesn't show?

No.  This is usually made up of anyone off the street.  Individuals.  There was a little of everything out there except that no trucks or motorcycles are allowed.  Pay the fee, take the orientation class, get assigned an instructor and you're out for your first 20 minutes with everyone.  I'm not sure, but I think I may have paid in advance.

There are no club expenses involved.  This is strictly out of the individual participant's pocket.

Not only is it 40 minutes track time, but you have a professional driver teaching you braking, line of assault, acceleration and track rules.

I'm not familiar with the term Death Fiero.

I like that, "line of assault".   :)

I give you the Death Fiero:

It shows up regularly.  To my knowledge, I have not met the owner, but I have seen this Fiero several times.  Other times, it has been at Fiero events, because I saw pics of it there, but did not happen to see this Fiero those particular times.  Once, it was several vehicles ahead of me on the road, because I saw it make a turn, but it was months until I saw this Fiero again.  I went straight at that intersection.

Would anyone consider doing the Carlisle show this year?  I think it was much more enjoyable than the Pigeon Forge show just because there were so many Fieros.  Of course, there are all the other GM brands, too, from customs to classic muscle cars to current muscle cars.  It's a much larger gathering than Pigeon Forge.

The host hotel that MAFOA uses has room rates at the moment for $59, but for some reason, the special group rates last year were $150.  Rooms can be shared to cut our costs.  Across the street is a Super 8 with current rates of $48.  If we have enough committed to go, maybe we could get the club to pay the entry fees.

Aside from hotel, I made the trip last year with total expenses less than $150, including meals and fuel.

Here is a link to the Carlisle Fairgrounds where the show is held.

June 25-26-27  GM National Car Show at Carlisle.  Fiero car show within the main event so we're not competing against newer cars.

627 miles.  2 day drive.  Attendance is unlikely, especially with my Fiero, but I won't rule it out entirely.

I left at 7AM Friday morning and arrived there about 7PM Friday afternoon.  On the return, I left about 8AM and arrived home around 6PM.  Usually at about 5 mph over the speed limit.  Had rain and slow traffic coming through the Carolinas on the way back.  I did the same thing going up and back.  Stop for fuel and bathroom and grab a snack.  I don't know how I cut off 2 hours on the way back.

Google Map says 656 miles and 9 hr. 55 minutes for me with usual traffic volume.

Why would you not drive that far in your Fiero?  Is it not dependable or is it a mileage factor?

Biggest factor is my mother lives in Wilkes-Barre, PA.  If I'm going that far, I'm going to see her.
She's in her mid-90s, doesn't own a car, and would have a great amount of trouble getting in and out of my Fiero.

And let's not forget the PA Dept of Transportation state motto: Potholes for Your Protection.

PA was first.

You can close your eyes and tell when you cross the border into or out of md.
