this afternoon I replaced the AC compressor in the GT..... after charging the system back up I had 52F air at the vents. I think that will do for him

Certainly cool, but I had always thought it was supposed to be 40 degrees F.

Or 40 degrees may be the wrong value.

Getting the AC fixed was in prep for next weekend.  I actually drove back home with the blower on high, windows down and sunroof open.  It's been a beautiful mid-80s day with a good breeze blowing.  Mostly cloudy on the way home.

Another reason for not using the AC is that I have leaf chafe blowing out of my defroster vents and leaves stuck inside my dash vents.  I need to remove the blower and resister next week and clean everything out again.  And that's just from leaves that have blown from the back yard next door.  Prevailing winds don't blow my leaves toward the cars.

I have frequently heard 40 degrees referenced, but it was always in the context of 40 degrees below the ambient temperature.  If it's 60 outside, it's easier to hit 40 than if it's 90.  I don't know which method is the correct one.
There are three kinds of men:

1.    The ones that learn by reading.
2.    The few who learn by observation.
3.    The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.    Will Rogers

Outside  temp. makes little difference, 2 to 4 degrees.  With A/C control on Max and fan on LOW it should pull from 38 to 42 degrees with needle style manual thermometer after about 10 minutes of driving.
The 2007 Ranger I just bought pulled down to 38 before I bought it so I was happy as I had been driving my 2003 Taurus Wagon without air for 2 years, so it was imperative that the A/C  worked. With the small super cab you can only run on Max for a few minutes and have to go to Dash and Floor mix and add a little heat. I am a very happy camper.

Funny how spoiled we've become.

I used to have 2/70 AC.

The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.
