89,000 Mile 86GT With 4 Speed Needs Good Home $1000 OBO
« on: May 06, 2011, 08:27:04 am »
I have been made aware of an 86 GT that the owner would like to go to a good home.  It's in the Buford-Oakwood-Braselton area.

The car has been sitting for about 4 years.  The brakes are locked and the slave cylinder is stuck.  It got a new clutch and AC not long before it was parked.  The owner says the car ran great but got harder and harder to start until it wouldn't start any more.

The car has no damage to the body.  The interior smells a little musty and the drivers seat would need to be replaced/recovered.  All interior pieces except the center console glove box are straight and not buckled.  Headliner and pocketed sunvisors are in great shape.  All the tires are flat.  The wheels are good and not scuffed.  Quarter windows are crazed a little and the drivers side has a 2-3 inch crack shown in one of the pictures.

The car was recently towed to a Nissan dealer and because it wouldn't start, their diagnosis was a bad fuel pump.  They didn't run fuel or spark tests on the car, so it may be a relay, ignition coil, or ignition module or it could be the fuel pump.  Simple no cost tests can confirm these problems.

The outside is dirty from sitting, but has the original paint with slight fade on the top.  It would probably look very good with a good scrubbing and buffing.  It would need leaves cleaned out of the engine and front compartment.

If interested, you may email Michael at     michaelspiano@yahoo.com

Here are the pictures I took of the car.

Interior.  Notice the touch pad radio.

Drivers seat needs repaired.  Had gotten wet at one time.  Musty smell.

Steering wheel is good but cover is twisted at top.

Auxilliary gauges are good.  No cracks in hard vinyl trim pieces.

Console box lid is buckled.  Needs replaced.

This is how it sits at the moment.  All tires are flat.

Crack in drivers side quarter window.

Additionally, the Nissan dealer told the owner that the engine was likely blown because they got water from the exhaust when they tried to start it.  Hey, it's been sitting outside for 4 years.

Something else I noticed is that the tail lights aren't delaminated, either.  I think sitting under that tree for all those years may have sheltered the car from the sun enough to keep everything except the exterior finish in good condition.

Yea, how do you fix that? Or can you.

No, the tail lights are good.  They don't need fixed.  The black masking inside often peels away.  Replacement lenses are available for the fastbacks, or you can remove the lens, paint the pattern inside the lens and reinstall.

If you're talking about fixing the exterior finish, a good brush scrubbing and a buffer would fix most of the blemishes, I think.

I plan on looking at it next Saturday after our May meeting; spoke / emailed with Michael.

Charlie, got time on Saturday to see if we can do a quick inspection and maybe narrow down what the problem might be with the engine?

Let me know.

If the weather is no good tomorrow, I don't think this will happen. Charlie, agree?

It would be a nice one to have if the issue was a simple fix. Looks nice.

I believe it will be a simple fix.  The dealership didn't run basic tests, so that's where we'll start.  BTW, Don, it doesn't have a battery in it.  I don't have a spare, either.
